1 ¶ David se bâtit des maisons dans la cité de David ; il prépara une place à l’arche de Dieu, et dressa pour elle une tente.
15:1-29
L’auteur reprend son récit sur l’arche là où il l’avait interrompu en #1Ch 13: 14. Il décrit son transport depuis la maison d’Obed-Edom.
David se bâtit des maisons. Grâce à l’alliance conclue avec Hiram (#1Ch 18: 1), David put construire son palais ainsi que des appartements pour ses épouses et leurs enfants. L’arche resta trois mois chez Obed-Edom, non loin de là (#1Ch 13:13-14). Pendant ce temps, David érigea un nouveau tabernacle à Jérusalem, afin de respecter le commandement de Dieu qui exigeait un lieu de résidence officiel (#De 12:5-7).
2 Alors David dit : L’arche de Dieu ne doit être portée que par les Lévites, car l’Éternel les a choisis pour porter l’arche de Dieu et pour en faire le service à toujours.
porter l’arche. Après un laps de temps de trois mois (#1Ch 13: 14), David se conforma aux directives mosaïques pour le déplacement de l’arche (cf. #No 4:1-49 ; #De 10:8 ; #De 18: 5). Ces directives avaient été enfreintes lors de son transport de Kirjath-Jearim jusque chez Obed-Edom, et cela avait coûté la vie à Uzza (cf. #1Ch 13:6-11).
3 Et David assembla tout Israël à Jérusalem pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel à la place qu’il lui avait préparée.
4 David assembla les fils d’Aaron et les Lévites:
15:4-7
Kehath … Merari … Guerschon. David effectua le déplacement de l’arche avec les mêmes familles que Moïse (cf. #No 4). Ces trois groupes de la tribu de Lévi prirent une part active à la restauration, après l’exil (cf. #1Ch 6:1-48).
5 des fils de Kehath, Uriel le chef et ses frères, cent vingt ;
6 des fils de Merari, Asaja le chef et ses frères, deux cent vingt ;
7 des fils de Guerschom, Joël le chef et ses frères, cent trente ;
8 des fils d’Élitsaphan, Schemaeja le chef et ses frères, deux cents ;
9 des fils d’Hébron, Eliel le chef et ses frères, quatre-vingts ;
10 des fils d’Uziel, Amminadab le chef et ses frères, cent douze.
11 David appela les sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar, et les Lévites Uriel, Asaja, Joël, Schemaeja, Eliel et Amminadab.
Tsadok … Abiathar. Ces deux souverains sacrificateurs, chefs des familles sacerdotales issues d’Eléazar et d’Ithamar, exerçaient leur ministère en parallèle (#2S 20: 5). Ils servirent simultanément l’Éternel durant le règne de David. Tsadok était rattaché au tabernacle qui se trouvait à Gabaon (#1Ch 16: 39), tandis qu’Abiathar officiait à l’emplacement temporaire de l’arche à Jérusalem. Finalement, Tsadok resta seul (cf. #1R 2:26-27).
12 Il leur dit : Vous êtes les chefs de famille des Lévites ; sanctifiez-vous, vous et vos frères, et faites monter à la place que je lui ai préparée l’arche de l’Éternel, du Dieu d’Israël.
sanctifiez-vous. Il s’agissait d’une sanctification particulière, exigée pour les occasions spéciales, celles qui nécessitaient une purification complète.
13 Parce que vous n’y étiez pas la première fois, l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a frappés ; car nous ne l’avons pas cherché selon la loi.
frappés. La colère de Dieu avait éclaté lorsque l’arche avait été manipulée et transportée de façon inappropriée par Uzza (#2S 6:6-8 ; #1Ch 13:9-12).
14 Les sacrificateurs et les Lévites se sanctifièrent pour faire monter l’arche de l’Éternel, du Dieu d’Israël.
15 Les fils des Lévites portèrent l’arche de Dieu sur leurs épaules avec des barres, comme Moïse l’avait ordonné d’après la parole de l’Éternel.
16 Et David dit aux chefs des Lévites de disposer leurs frères les chantres avec des instruments de musique, des luths, des harpes et des cymbales, qu’ils devaient faire retentir de sons éclatants en signe de réjouissance.
15:16-24
Les plus considérés des Lévites reçurent l’ordre de préparer les musiciens et chanteurs à une procession solennelle.
17 Les Lévites disposèrent Héman, fils de Joël ; parmi ses frères, Asaph, fils de Bérékia ; et parmi les fils de Merari, leurs frères, Ethan, fils de Kuschaja ;
18 puis avec eux leurs frères du second ordre Zacharie, Ben, Jaaziel, Schemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaja, Maaséja, Matthithia, Eliphelé et Miknéja, et Obed-Edom et Jeïel, les portiers.
19 Les chantres Héman, Asaph et Ethan avaient des cymbales d’airain, pour les faire retentir.
20 Zacharie, Aziel, Schemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaséja et Benaja avaient des luths sur alamoth ;
21 et Matthithia, Eliphelé, Miknéja, Obed-Edom, Jeïel et Azazia, avaient des harpes à huit cordes, pour conduire le chant.
22 Kenania, chef de musique parmi les Lévites, dirigeait la musique, car il était habile.
23 Bérékia et Elkana étaient portiers de l’arche.
24 Schebania, Josaphat, Nethaneel, Amasaï, Zacharie, Benaja et Eliézer, les sacrificateurs, sonnaient des trompettes devant l’arche de Dieu. Obed-Edom et Jechija étaient portiers de l’arche.
25 ¶ David, les anciens d’Israël, et les chefs de milliers se mirent en route pour faire monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel depuis la maison d’Obed-Edom, au milieu des réjouissances.
26 Ce fut avec l’assistance de Dieu que les Lévites portèrent l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel ; et l’on sacrifia sept taureaux et sept béliers.
27 David était revêtu d’un manteau de byssus ; il en était de même de tous les Lévites qui portaient l’arche, des chantres, et de Kenania, chef de musique parmi les chantres ; et David avait sur lui un éphod de lin.
28 Tout Israël fit monter l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel avec des cris de joie, au son des clairons, des trompettes et des cymbales, et en faisant retentir les luths et les harpes.
29 Comme l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel entrait dans la cité de David, Mical, fille de Saül, regardait par la fenêtre, et voyant le roi David sauter et danser, elle le méprisa dans son cœur.

1 David built houses in the city of David; He prepared a place for the ark of God, and set up a tent for her.
15: 1-29
The author recounts his account of the ark where he interrupted it in # 1Ch 13:14. He describes his journey from the house of Obed-Edom.
David builds houses for himself. Through the covenant with Hiram (# 1Ch 18: 1), David was able to build his palace as well as apartments for his wives and children. The ark remained three months at Obed-Edom, not far away (# 1Ch 13: 13-14). Meanwhile, David erected a new tabernacle in Jerusalem, to respect the commandment of God that required an official place of residence (# 12: 5-7).
2 And David said, The ark of God is to be worn only by the Levites: for the LORD hath chosen them to bear the ark of God, and to serve it for ever.
Bear the ark. After a period of three months (# 1Ch 13:14), David conformed to the Mosaic guidelines for the movement of the ark (see # 4: 1-49; #From 10: 8; # 18: 5). These instructions had been broken during his journey from Kirjath-Jearim to Obed-Edom, and this had cost Uzza's life (see # 1Ch 13: 6-11).
3 And David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place which he had prepared for him.
4 And David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:

Kehath ... Merari ... Guerschon. David moved the ark with the same families as Moses (cf. # 4). These three groups of the tribe of Levi took an active part in the restoration after the exile (cf # 1Ch 6: 1-48).
5 Of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the prince and his brethren, one hundred and twenty.
6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brethren, two hundred and twenty.
7 Of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brethren one hundred and thirty.
8 Of the sons of Elisaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred;
9 Of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brethren eighty;
10 Of the sons of Uziel, Amminadab the chief and his brethren, one hundred twelve.
11 And David called the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
Tsadok ... Abiathar. These two high priests, heads of the priestly families from Eleazar and Ithamar, ministered in parallel (# 2S 20: 5). They served the Lord at the same time during the reign of David. Zadok was attached to the tabernacle which was in Gibeon (# 1Ch 16:39), while Abiathar was in the temporary place of the ark in Jerusalem. Finally, Tsadok remained alone (see # 1R 2: 26-27).
12 And he said unto them, Ye are the heads of the fathers of the Levites; Sanctify ye and your brethren, and bring up the ark of the LORD of the God of Israel unto the place which I have prepared for him.
Sanctify yourself. It was a special sanctification required for special occasions, which required a complete purification.
13 Because you were not there the first time, the LORD our God struck us; Because we did not seek it according to the law.
Struck. The wrath of God had broken out when the ark had been handled and improperly carried by Uzza (# 2S 6: 6-8; # 1Ch 13: 9-12).
14 And the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD of the God of Israel.
15 And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God upon their shoulders with bars, as Moses commanded from the word of the LORD.
16 And David said unto the princes of the Levites, that they should set their brethren singers with instruments of music, and with lutes, and harps, and with cymbals, that they should make a resounding sound.
15: 16-24
The most celebrated of the Levites were ordered to prepare the musicians and singers for a solemn procession.
17 The Levites arranged Heman the son of Joel; Among his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; And among the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kusha'ah;
18 And then with them were their brothers of the second order Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Matthiahiah, Eliphele and Mikneja, and Obed-Edom and Jeiel the gatekeepers.
19 The chanters Heman, Asaph, and Ethan had cymbals of brass to make them sound.
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah had lutes on alamoth;
21 And Matthithiah, Eliphele, Mikneja, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah, had harps with eight strings, to lead the singing.
22 Kenania, a chief of music among the Levites, directed the music, for he was skilful.
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were porters of the ark.
24 And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amazai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, sounded trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom and Jechiah were porters of the ark.
25 And David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains of thousands, set out to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obededom, in the midst of rejoicing.
26 It was with the help of God that the Levites bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD; And they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
27 David was clothed in a mantle of byssus; It was the same with all the Levites who bore the ark, singers, and Kenania, chief of music among the singers; And David had on him a linen ephod.
28 And all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts of joy, with the sound of bugles, and trumpets, and cymbals, and made the lutes and harps to sound.
29 As the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked out of the window, and seeing King David jumping and dancing, she despised him in his heart.
