1 ¶ Enfants d’Israël selon leur nombre, chefs de maisons paternelles, chefs de milliers et de centaines, et officiers au service du roi pour tout ce qui concernait les divisions, leur arrivée et leur départ, mois par mois, pendant tous les mois de l’année, chaque division étant de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
27:1-34
Les ch. #1 Ch 23-26 traitaient des responsabilités dans le domaine spirituel, l’auteur se concentre désormais sur les aspects civils du royaume de David.
27:1-15
Cette section mentionne l’organisation de l’armée de métier d’Israël, 288 000 hommes qui avaient la responsabilité de protéger la nation et le temple. Ils étaient répartis en 12 classes, chacune d’elles servant un mois par année. En cas de guerre, des hommes supplémentaires pouvaient être appelés (cf. #1Ch 21: 5).
2 A la tête de la première division, pour le premier mois, était Jaschobeam, fils de Zabdiel ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
3 Il était des fils de Pérets, et il commandait tous les chefs des troupes du premier mois.
4 A la tête de la division du second mois était Dodaï, l’Achochite ; Mikloth était l’un des chefs de sa division ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
5 Le chef de la troisième division, pour le troisième mois, était Benaja, fils du sacrificateur Jehojada, chef ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
6 Ce Benaja était un héros parmi les trente et à la tête des trente ; et Ammizadab, son fils, était l’un des chefs de sa division.
7 Le quatrième, pour le quatrième mois, était Asaël, frère de Joab, et, après lui, Zebadia, son fils ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
8 Le cinquième, pour le cinquième mois, était le chef Schamehuth, le Jizrachite ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
9 Le sixième, pour le sixième mois, était Ira, fils d’Ikkesch, le Tekoïte ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
10 Le septième, pour le septième mois, était Hélets, le Pelonite, des fils d’Éphraïm ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
11 Le huitième, pour le huitième mois, était Sibbecaï, le Huschatite, de la famille des Zérachites ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
12 Le neuvième, pour le neuvième mois, était Abiézer, d’Anathoth, des Benjamites ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
13 Le dixième, pour le dixième mois, était Maharaï, de Nethopha, de la famille des Zérachites ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
14 Le onzième, pour le onzième mois, était Benaja, de Pirathon, des fils d’Éphraïm ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
15 Le douzième, pour le douzième mois, était Heldaï, de Nethopha, de la famille d’Othniel ; et il avait une division de vingt-quatre mille hommes.
16 ¶ Voici les chefs des tribus d’Israël. Chef des Rubénites : Éliézer, fils de Zicri ; des Siméonites : Schephathia, fils de Maaca ;
27:16-22
Même si douze chefs sont nommés, les tribus d’Aser et de Gad ne sont pas mentionnées, pour des raisons inconnues.
17 des Lévites : Haschabia, fils de Kemuel ; de la famille d’Aaron : Tsadok ;
18 de Juda : Élihu, des frères de David ; d’Issacar : Omri, fils de Micaël ;
19 de Zabulon : Jischemaeja, fils d’Abdias ; de Nephthali : Jerimoth, fils d’Azriel ;
20 des fils d’Éphraïm : Hosée, fils d’Azazia ; de la demi-tribu de Manassé : Joël, fils de Pedaja ;
21 de la demi-tribu de Manassé en Galaad : Jiddo, fils de Zacharie ; de Benjamin : Jaasiel, fils d’Abner ;
22 de Dan : Azareel, fils de Jerocham. Ce sont là les chefs des tribus d’Israël.
23 David ne fit point le dénombrement de ceux d’Israël qui étaient âgés de vingt ans et au-dessous, car l’Éternel avait promis de multiplier Israël comme les étoiles du ciel.
27:23-24
Ces vv. livrent un nouveau commentaire sur le dénombrement insensé décrit en #1Ch 21:1-30: David ne chercha pas à compter absolument tous les Israélites en raison de leur grand nombre (cf. #Ge 28:14), et il fut interrompu dans sa tâche par la culpabilité et le jugement.
24 Joab, fils de Tseruja, avait commencé le dénombrement, mais il ne l’acheva pas, l’Éternel s’étant irrité contre Israël à cause de ce dénombrement, qui ne fut point porté parmi ceux des Chroniques du roi David.
Chroniques du roi David. On établissait un rapport sur chaque jour de règne, mais on ne conserva rien sur cet épisode en raison de son aspect particulièrement tragique.
25 Azmaveth, fils d’Adiel, était préposé sur les trésors du roi ; Jonathan, fils d’Ozias, sur les provisions dans les champs, les villes, les villages et les tours ;
27:25-31
Liste des fonctionnaires qui surveillaient les différents domaines agricoles de David.
26 Ezri, fils de Kélub, sur les ouvriers de la campagne qui cultivaient la terre ;
27 Schimeï, de Rama, sur les vignes ; Zabdi, de Schepham, sur les provisions de vin dans les vignes ;
28 Baal-Hanan, de Guéder, sur les oliviers et les sycomores dans la plaine ; Joasch, sur les provisions d’huile ;
29 Schithraï, de Saron, sur les bœufs qui paissaient en Saron ; Schaphath, fils d’Adlaï, sur les bœufs dans les vallées ;
30 Obil, l’Ismaélite, sur les chameaux ; Jechdia, de Méronoth, sur les ânesses ;
31 Jaziz, l’Hagarénien, sur les brebis. Tous ceux-là étaient intendants des biens du roi David.
32 Jonathan, oncle de David, était conseiller, homme de sens et de savoir ; Jehiel, fils de Hacmoni, était auprès des fils du roi ;
27:32-34
Liste des hommes qui, du fait de leurs fonctions, étaient en contact étroit avec le roi (cf. #1Ch 18:14-17), formant peut-être une sorte de cabinet. Lorsque le fils de David, Absalom, se rebella contre lui, Achitophel trahit David et se joignit à la révolution. Huschaï prétendit faire allégeance à Absalom et provoqua, en fait, la mort de ce dernier par ses mauvais conseils (cf. #2S 15:31-17:23).
33 Achitophel était conseiller du roi ; Huschaï, l’Arkien, était ami du roi ;
34 après Achitophel, Jehojada, fils de Benaja, et Abiathar, furent conseillers ; Joab était chef de l’armée du roi.

The ch. # 1 Ch 23-26 dealt with responsibilities in the spiritual realm, the author now focuses on the civil aspects of the kingdom of David.
27: 1-15
This section mentions the organization of the Israeli Army, 288,000 men who were responsible for protecting the nation and the temple. They were divided into 12 classes, each serving one month a year. In case of war, additional men could be called (see # 1Ch 21: 5).

Even though twelve chiefs are appointed, the tribes of Aser and Gad are not mentioned, for unknown reasons.

27: 23-24
These vv. David made no further comment on the foolish count described in # 1Ch 21: 1-30: David did not try to count all the Israelites because of their great number (cf. Ge 28:14), and he was interrupted in his Task by guilt and judgment.
24 And Joab the son of Zeruiah began counting, but he did not finish it, because Jehovah was angry with Israel because of this numbering, which was not among the chronicles of King David.
Chronicles of King David. A report was prepared on each reign day, but nothing was retained on this episode because of its particularly tragic aspect.
25 Azmaveth the son of Adiel was appointed over the king's treasures; Jonathan the son of Uzziah, about the provisions in the fields, the cities, the villages, and the towers;

List of officials who monitored David's various fields of agriculture.
26 Ezri the son of Kelub, over the land-workers of the field;
27 Shimei, of Ramah, over the vineyards; Zabdi of Shepham, concerning the provisions of wine in the vineyards;
28 Baal-hanan, of Gedeh, on the olive-trees and sycamores in the plain; Joash, on the provisions of oil;
29 Shitrai, of Saron, on the oxen that grazed in Saron; Shaphath the son of Adlai, upon the oxen in the valleys;
30 Obil the Ishmaelite on the camels; Jehdiah, of Meronoth, upon the asses;
31 Jaziz the Hagaranite on the sheep. All these were stewards of the property of King David.
32 Jonathan, uncle of David, was a counselor, a man of sense and knowledge; Jehiel the son of Hacmoni was with the king's sons;

List of men who, by virtue of their duties, were in close contact with the king (cf. # 1Ch 18: 14-17), perhaps forming a sort of cabinet. When David's son Absalom rebelled against him, Achitophel betrayed David and joined the revolution. Huschai claimed to be allegiance to Absalom and in fact caused his death by his evil counsels (see # 2S 15: 31-17: 23).
33 Ahitophel was counselor to the king; Hushai, the Arkite, was a friend of the king;
34 After Achitophel, Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar, were councilors; Joab was chief of the king's army.
