1 ¶ Fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël. — Car il était le premier-né ; mais, parce qu’il souilla la couche de son père, son droit d’aînesse fut donné aux fils de Joseph, fils d’Israël ; toutefois Joseph ne dut pas être enregistré dans les généalogies comme premier-né.
2 Juda fut, à la vérité, puissant parmi ses frères, et de lui est issu un prince ; mais le droit d’aînesse est à Joseph.
Juda fut … puissant. D’après la bénédiction de Jacob (#Ge 49:10), le roi d’Israël devait venir de Juda. Cette prophétie présente un lien historique avec l’alliance davidique (cf. #2S 7 ; #1Ch 17) et a des implications messianiques évidentes.
3 Fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël : Hénoc, Pallu, Hetsron et Carmi.
4 Fils de Joël : Schemaeja, son fils ; Gog, son fils ; Schimeï, son fils ;
5 Michée, son fils ; Reaja, son fils ; Baal, son fils ;
6 Beéra, son fils, que Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d’Assyrie, emmena captif : il était prince des Rubénites.
Tilgath-Pilnéser. Roi d’Assyrie (av. J.-C.) qui menaça Juda et imposa un tribut à Achaz (cf. #2R 16:7-20 ; #2Ch 28:16-21).
7 Frères de Beéra, d’après leurs familles, tels qu’ils sont enregistrés dans les généalogies selon leurs générations : le premier, Jeïel ; Zacharie ;
8 Béla, fils d’Azaz, fils de Schéma, fils de Joël. Béla habitait à Aroër, et jusqu’à Nebo et à Baal-Meon ;
9 à l’orient, il habitait jusqu’à l’entrée du désert depuis le fleuve de l’Euphrate, car leurs troupeaux étaient nombreux dans le pays de Galaad.
10 Du temps de Saül, ils firent la guerre aux Hagaréniens, qui tombèrent entre leurs mains ; et ils habitèrent dans leurs tentes, sur tout le côté oriental de Galaad.
11 Les fils de Gad habitaient vis-à-vis d’eux, dans le pays de Basan, jusqu’à Salca.
12 Joël, le premier, Schapham, le second, Jaenaï, et Schaphath, en Basan.
13 Leurs frères, d’après les maisons de leurs pères: Micaël, Meschullam, Schéba, Joraï, Jaecan, Zia et Eber, sept.
14 Voici les fils d’Abichaïl, fils de Huri, fils de Jaroach, fils de Galaad, fils de Micaël, fils de Jeschischaï, fils de Jachdo, fils de Buz ;
15 Achi, fils d’Abdiel, fils de Guni, était chef des maisons de leurs pères.
16 Ils habitaient en Galaad, en Basan, et dans les villes de leur ressort, et dans toutes les banlieues de Saron jusqu’à leurs extrémités.
17 Ils furent tous enregistrés dans les généalogies, du temps de Jotham, roi de Juda, et du temps de Jéroboam, roi d’Israël.
18 ¶ Les fils de Ruben, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé avaient de vaillants hommes, portant le bouclier et l’épée, tirant de l’arc, et exercés à la guerre, au nombre de quarante-quatre mille sept cent soixante, en état d’aller à l’armée.
19 Ils firent la guerre aux Hagaréniens, à Jethur, à Naphisch et à Nodab.
20 Ils reçurent du secours contre eux, et les Hagaréniens et tous ceux qui étaient avec eux furent livrés entre leurs mains. Car, pendant le combat, ils avaient crié à Dieu, qui les exauça, parce qu’ils s’étaient confiés en lui.
21 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux, cinquante mille chameaux, deux cent cinquante mille brebis, deux mille ânes, et cent mille personnes ;
22 car il y eut beaucoup de morts, parce que le combat venait de Dieu. Et ils s’établirent à leur place jusqu’au temps où ils furent emmenés captifs.
captifs. Il est ici question de la déportation assyrienne de 722 av. J.-C. (cf. #1Ch 5:26).
23 Les fils de la demi-tribu de Manassé habitaient dans le pays, depuis Basan jusqu’à Baal-Hermon et à Senir, et à la montagne d’Hermon ; ils étaient nombreux.
24 Voici les chefs des maisons de leurs pères : Epher, Jischeï, Eliel, Azriel, Jérémie, Hodavia et Jachdiel, vaillants hommes, gens de renom, chefs des maisons de leurs pères.
25 Mais ils péchèrent contre le Dieu de leurs pères, et ils se prostituèrent après les dieux des peuples du pays, que Dieu avait détruits devant eux.
26 Le Dieu d’Israël excita l’esprit de Pul, roi d’Assyrie, et l’esprit de Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d’Assyrie, et Tilgath-Pilnéser emmena captifs les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé, et il les conduisit à Chalach, à Chabor, à Hara, et au fleuve de Gozan, où ils sont demeurés jusqu’à ce jour.

1 ¶ The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel. "For he was the firstborn; But because he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given to the children of Joseph the son of Israel; But Joseph was not to be registered in the genealogies as firstborn.
2 Judah was indeed a mighty one among his brethren, and a prince was born to him. But the right of primogeniture is to Joseph.
Judah was ... powerful. According to the blessing of Jacob (Genesis 49:10), the king of Israel was to come from Judah. This prophecy presents a historical connection with the Davidic covenant (see # 2S 7; # 1Ch 17) and has obvious messianic implications.
3 The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son; Gog, his son; Shimei his son;
5 Micah his son; Reaja, his son; Baal his son;
6 And Beerah his son, whom Tilgath Pillneer, king of Assyria, carried away captive. He was prince of the Reubenites.
Tilgath-Pilneser. King of Assyria (BC) who threatened Judah and imposed a tribute on Ahaz (see # 2R 16: 7-20; # 2Ch 28: 16-21).

15 And Achi the son of Abdiel the son of Guni was over the household of their fathers.
16 And they dwelt in Gilead, and in Bashan, and in the towns thereof, and in all the suburbs of Saron unto their ends.
17 And they were all recorded in the genealogies, in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.
18 ¶ And the sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, had valiant men, carrying a shield and a sword, drawing from the bow, and exalted in war, to the number of forty and four thousand and seven hundred Sixty, fit to go to the army.
19 And they made war against the Hagarites, and Jethur, and Naphish, and Nodab.
20 And they received help from them, and the Hagarites and all that were with them were delivered into their hand. For in the battle they cried unto God, who heard them, because they trusted in him.
21 And they took their flocks, and fifty thousand camels, and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand men;
22 For there were many dead, because the battle came from God. And they dwelt in their place until the time when they were taken captive.
Captives. We are talking here about the Assyrian deportation of 722 BC. J.-C. (see # 1Ch 5:26).
23 And the sons of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land, from Bashan unto Baal-hermon and Senir, and to mount Hermon; They were numerous.
24 These are the chiefs of their fathers' houses: Epher, and Jezeleh, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, valiant men, and men of fame, chiefs of the house of their fathers.
25 But they sinned against the God of their fathers, and prostituted themselves after the gods of the people of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.
26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath Pillneer, the king of Assyria, and Tilgath-Pillneer captivated the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh , And brought them to Chalach, Shabor, Hara, and the river of Gozan, where they remained until this day.
