1 ¶ Alors Salomon dit : L’Éternel veut habiter dans l’obscurité !
2 Et moi, j’ai bâti une maison qui sera ta demeure, un lieu où tu résideras éternellement !
3 Le roi tourna son visage, et bénit toute l’assemblée d’Israël ; et toute l’assemblée d’Israël était debout.
4 Et il dit : Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui a parlé de sa bouche à David, mon père, et qui accomplit par sa puissance ce qu’il avait déclaré en disant:
5 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir mon peuple du pays d’Égypte, je n’ai point choisi de ville parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour qu’il y fût bâti une maison où résidât mon nom, et je n’ai point choisi d’homme pour qu’il fût chef de mon peuple d’Israël ;
6 mais j’ai choisi Jérusalem pour que mon nom y résidât, et j’ai choisi David pour qu’il régnât sur mon peuple d’Israël !
7 David, mon père, avait l’intention de bâtir une maison au nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
8 Et l’Éternel dit à David, mon père: Puisque tu as eu l’intention de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait d’avoir eu cette intention.
9 Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison ; mais ce sera ton fils, sorti de tes entrailles, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.
10 L’Éternel a accompli la parole qu’il avait prononcée. Je me suis élevé à la place de David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme l’avait annoncé l’Éternel, et j’ai bâti la maison au nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
11 J’y ai placé l’arche où est l’alliance de l’Éternel, l’alliance qu’il a faite avec les enfants d’Israël.

12 ¶ Salomon se plaça devant l’autel de l’Éternel, en face de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, et il étendit ses mains.
6:12-40
Dans sa prière, Salomon demanda à Dieu d’assister son peuple dans différentes situations, plus précisément en cas:
1° de délit (vv. #2Ch 6:22-23),
2° d’attaque (vv. #2Ch 6:24-25),
3° de sécheresse (vv. #2Ch 6:26-27),
4° de famine (vv. #2Ch 6:28-31),
5° de prière adressée par des étrangers (vv. #2Ch 6:32-33),
6° de guerre (vv. #2Ch 6:34-35) ou
7° de péché (vv. #2Ch 6:36-39).
13 Car Salomon avait fait une tribune d’airain, et l’avait mise au milieu du parvis ; elle était longue de cinq coudées, large de cinq coudées, et haute de trois coudées ; il s’y plaça, se mit à genoux en face de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, et étendit ses mains vers le ciel.
se mit à genoux. Par cet acte d’humilité inhabituel pour un roi, Salomon reconnaissait la souveraineté de Dieu.
14 Et il dit : O Éternel, Dieu d’Israël ! Il n’y a point de Dieu semblable à toi, dans les cieux et sur la terre : tu gardes l’alliance et la miséricorde envers tes serviteurs qui marchent en ta présence de tout leur cœur !
15 Ainsi tu as tenu parole à ton serviteur David, mon père ; et ce que tu as déclaré de ta bouche, tu l’accomplis en ce jour par ta puissance.
16 Maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, observe la promesse que tu as faite à David, mon père, en disant : Tu ne manqueras jamais devant moi d’un successeur assis sur le trône d’Israël, pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie et qu’ils marchent dans ma loi comme tu as marché en ma présence.
17 Qu’elle s’accomplisse donc, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur David !
18 Mais quoi ! Dieu habiterait-il véritablement avec l’homme sur la terre ? Voici, les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent te contenir : combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie !
Salomon était émerveillé de constater que Dieu acceptait d’habiter là. Cf. #Jn 1:14 ; #Col 2:9.
19 Toutefois, Éternel mon Dieu, sois attentif à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication ; écoute le cri et la prière que t’adresse ton serviteur.
20 Que tes yeux soient jour et nuit ouverts sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont tu as dit que là serait ton nom ! Écoute la prière que ton serviteur fait en ce lieu.
21 Daigne exaucer les supplications de ton serviteur et de ton peuple d’Israël, lorsqu’ils prieront en ce lieu ! Exauce du lieu de ta demeure, des cieux, exauce et pardonne !
22 Si quelqu’un pèche contre son prochain et qu’on lui impose un serment pour le faire jurer, et s’il vient jurer devant ton autel, dans cette maison,
23 écoute-le des cieux, agis, et juge tes serviteurs ; condamne le coupable, et fais retomber sa conduite sur sa tête, rends justice à l’innocent, et traite-le selon son innocence !
24 Quand ton peuple d’Israël sera battu par l’ennemi, pour avoir péché contre toi ; s’ils reviennent à toi et rendent gloire à ton nom, s’ils t’adressent des prières et des supplications dans cette maison,
25 exauce-les des cieux, pardonne le péché de ton peuple d’Israël, et ramène-les dans le pays que tu as donné à eux et à leurs pères !
26 Quand le ciel sera fermé et qu’il n’y aura point de pluie, à cause de leurs péchés contre toi ; s’ils prient dans ce lieu et rendent gloire à ton nom, et s’ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que tu les auras châtiés ;
27 exauce-les des cieux, pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple d’Israël, à qui tu enseigneras la bonne voie dans laquelle ils doivent marcher, et fais venir la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée pour héritage à ton peuple !
28 Quand la famine, la peste, la rouille et la nielle, les sauterelles d’une espèce ou d’une autre, seront dans le pays, quand l’ennemi assiégera ton peuple dans son pays, dans ses portes, quand il y aura des fléaux ou des maladies quelconques ;
29 si un homme, si tout ton peuple d’Israël fait entendre des prières et des supplications, et que chacun reconnaisse sa plaie et sa douleur et étende les mains vers cette maison,
30 exauce-le des cieux, du lieu de ta demeure, et pardonne ; rends à chacun selon ses voies, toi qui connais le cœur de chacun, car seul tu connais le cœur des enfants des hommes,
31 et ils te craindront pour marcher dans tes voies tout le temps qu’ils vivront dans le pays que tu as donné à nos pères !
32 Quand l’étranger, qui n’est pas de ton peuple d’Israël, viendra d’un pays lointain, à cause de ton grand nom, de ta main forte et de ton bras étendu, quand il viendra prier dans cette maison,
33 exauce-le des cieux, du lieu de ta demeure, et accorde à cet étranger tout ce qu’il te demandera, afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton nom pour te craindre, comme ton peuple d’Israël, et sachent que ton nom est invoqué sur cette maison que j’ai bâtie !
34 Quand ton peuple sortira pour combattre ses ennemis, en suivant la voie que tu lui auras prescrite ; s’ils t’adressent des prières, les regards tournés vers cette ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie en ton nom,
35 exauce des cieux leurs prières et leurs supplications, et fais-leur droit !
36 Quand ils pécheront contre toi, car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche, quand tu seras irrité contre eux et que tu les livreras à l’ennemi, qui les emmènera captifs dans un pays lointain ou rapproché ;
37 s’ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays où ils seront captifs, s’ils reviennent à toi et t’adressent des supplications dans le pays de leur captivité, et qu’ils disent : Nous avons péché, nous avons commis des iniquités, nous avons fait le mal !
38 s’ils reviennent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leur captivité où ils ont été emmenés captifs, s’ils t’adressent des prières, les regards tournés vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie à ton nom,
39 exauce des cieux, du lieu de ta demeure, leurs prières et leurs supplications, et fais-leur droit ; pardonne à ton peuple ses péchés contre toi !
40 Maintenant, ô mon Dieu, que tes yeux soient ouverts, et que tes oreilles soient attentives à la prière faite en ce lieu !
41 Maintenant, Éternel Dieu, lève-toi, viens à ton lieu de repos, toi et l’arche de ta majesté ! Que tes sacrificateurs, Éternel Dieu, soient revêtus de salut, et que tes bien-aimés jouissent du bonheur !
42 Éternel Dieu, ne repousse pas ton oint, souviens-toi des grâces accordées à David, ton serviteur !

1 ¶ Then Solomon said, The LORD will dwell in the darkness.
2 And I have built a house for your dwelling, a place where you shall dwell forever!
3 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel; And all the congregation of Israel stood up.
4 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David my father, and did by his power what he had spoken, saying,
5 From the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose not a city among all the tribes of Israel, that there should be a house in which my name dwelt; I have chosen a man to be chief of my people Israel;
6 But I chose Jerusalem for my name to dwell there, and I chose David to reign over my people Israel.
7 David, my father, intended to build a house in the name of the Lord God of Israel.
8 And the LORD said unto David my father, Because thou hast had the intention of building a house in my name, thou hast done well to have had this intention.
9 Only it shall not be you who will build the house; But it shall be thy son, out of thy womb, who shall build the house in my name.
10 The LORD has fulfilled the word which he spoke. I rose up in the place of David my father, and sat on the throne of Israel, as the LORD had foretold, and I built the house in the name of the LORD God Of Israel.
11 And I have set the ark in which is the covenant of Jehovah, the covenant which he made with the children of Israel.
The covenant of the LORD. The Mosaic law written on the stone tables (cf # 2Ch 5:10).
12 And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD before all the congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hand.
6: 12-40
In his prayer, Solomon asked God to assist his people in different situations, specifically in the following cases:
1 ° of offense (vv. # 2Ch 6: 22-23),
2 ° of attack (vv. # 2Ch 6: 24-25),
3 ° dryness (vv. # 2Ch 6: 26-27),
4 ° of famine (vv. 2Ch 6: 28-31),
5 ° prayer from foreigners (vv. 2Ch 6: 32-33),
6 ° of war (vv. 2Ch 6: 34-35) or
7 ° of sin (vv. 2Ch 6: 36-39).
13 For Solomon made a tribune of brass, and set it in the midst of the court; It was five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high; He placed himself there, knelt before the whole assembly of Israel, and stretched out his hands to heaven.
Knelt down. By this act of humility unusual for a king, Solomon recognized the sovereignty of God.
14 And he said, O LORD God of Israel. There is no God like thee in the heavens and the earth: thou hast kept the covenant and mercy with thy servants, who walk in thy presence with all their heart.
15 So thou hast kept the word of thy servant David my father; And whatsoever thou hast declared with thy mouth, thou hast accomplished it in this day by thy power.
16 Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep the promise you made to David my father, saying, You shall never fail before me a successor sitting on the throne of Israel, provided your sons take care To their way and walk in my law as you walked in my presence.
17 Let it then be fulfilled, O LORD God of Israel, the promise which thou hast made to thy servant David.
18 But what! Would God really dwell with man on earth? Behold, the heavens and heaven of heaven can not restrain you: how much less this house which I have built!
Solomon was amazed to find that God was willing to live there. Cf. #Jn 1:14; #Col 2: 9.
19 Nevertheless, O LORD my God, be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to his supplication; Listen to the cry and prayer that your servant addresses to you.
20 Let thy eyes be day and night open upon this house, upon the place where thou hast said it would be thy name. Listen to the prayer that your servant does in this place.
21 Hear the prayers of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray in this place. Hear from the place of your dwelling, from heaven, hear and forgive!
22 If any man sin against his neighbor, and an oath is sworn to him, and he swears before your altar, in this house,
23 Listen to the heavens, and judge thy servants; Condemn the guilty, and make his conduct fall upon his head, do justice to the innocent, and treat him according to his innocence!
24 When thy people Israel shall be beaten by the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; If they return to thee and give glory to thy name, if they pray and supplicate thee in this house,
25 Hearken unto the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them back to the land which thou hast given to them and to their fathers.
26 When the heaven is closed, and there is no rain, because of their sins against thee; If they pray in this place and glorify your name, and turn away from their sins, because you have punished them;
27 Hearken to the heavens, forgive the sin of your servants and your people of Israel, to whom you will teach the good way in which they must walk, and bring rain to the land which you have given for your heritage. People!
28 When the famine, the pestilence, the rust, and the nile, the grasshoppers of one kind or another, shall be in the land, when the enemy shall besiege thy people in his land, in his gates, Disease or plague;
29 If a man, if all thy people Israel heareth prayers and supplications, and let every man acknowledge his plague and his sorrow, and extend his hands to this house,
30 Hearken from the heavens, from the place of your dwelling, and forgive; Give to each one according to his ways, you who know the heart of each one, for only you know the hearts of the children of men,
31 and they shall fear thee to walk in thy ways all the time that they live in the land which thou gavest to our fathers.
32 When the stranger, who is not of thy people Israel, shall come from a far country, because of thy great name, and thy strong hand, and thy outstretched arm, when he come to pray in this house,
33 And hearken unto him from the heavens, from the place of your dwelling, and grant to this stranger all that he asks of thee, that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name to fear thee, as thy people Israel, Let thy name be called upon upon this house which I have built.
34 When thy people go out to fight their enemies, by following the way which thou hast commanded; If they address prayers to you, look to that city which you have chosen, and to the house which I have built in your name,
35 hear their prayers and their supplications from heaven, and do them right.
36 When they sin against thee, for there is no man that sinneth, when thou shalt be angry with them, and deliver them unto the enemy, and shall take them captive into a land far or near;
37 if they return to the land where they will be captive, if they return to you and make supplication to you in the land of their captivity, and say, We have sinned, we have committed Iniquities, we have done evil!
38 If thou return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul, in the land of their captivity, where they have been taken captive, if they pray unto thee, Their fathers, to the city which thou hast chosen, and to the house which I have built in thy name,
39 Hearken from the heavens, from the place of your dwelling, their prayers and their supplications, and do them right; Forgive your people for their sins against you!
40 Now, O my God, let your eyes be opened, and let your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place.
41 And now, O LORD God, arise, and come to thy resting-place, thou and the ark of thy majesty. Let your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let your beloved ones enjoy happiness!
42 Jehovah God, do not reject your anointed, remember the graces of David your servant.
