1 ¶ Jotham avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s’appelait Jéruscha, fille de Tsadok.
27:1-9
Description du règne de Jotham (av. J.-C.). Cf. #2R 15:32-38. Esaïe (#Esa 1:11) et Osée (#Os 1:1), ainsi que Michée (#Mi 1:1), exercèrent leur ministère prophétique à son époque.
2 Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Éternel, entièrement comme avait fait Ozias, son père. Seulement, il n’entra point dans le temple de l’Éternel. Toutefois, le peuple se corrompait encore.
3 Jotham bâtit la porte supérieure de la maison de l’Éternel, et il fit beaucoup de constructions sur les murs de la colline.
murs de la colline. Ou « murs de l’Ophel », du côté sud de Jérusalem.
4 Il bâtit des villes dans la montagne de Juda, et des châteaux et des tours dans les bois.
5 Il fut en guerre avec le roi des fils d’Ammon, et il l’emporta sur eux. Les fils d’Ammon lui donnèrent cette année-là cent talents d’argent, dix mille cors de froment, et dix mille d’orge ; et ils lui en payèrent autant la seconde année et la troisième.
fils d’Ammon. Jotham repoussa cette invasion, poursuivit ses ennemis jusque sur leur territoire et leur imposa un tribut annuel. Ils le payèrent pendant deux ans jusqu’à ce que Retsin, roi de Syrie, et Pékach, roi d’Israël, se révoltent et attaquent. Jotham fut alors trop occupé pour se soucier des Ammonites (cf. #2R 15: 37).

dix mille mesures. On peut estimer que ce volume équivalait à 3000 tonnes.
6 Jotham devint puissant, parce qu’il affermit ses voies devant l’Éternel, son Dieu.
Jotham commit une seule faute: celle de ne pas éliminer les hauts lieux et de ne pas mettre fin au culte des idoles (cf. v. #2Ch 27:2 ; #2R 15: 35).
7 Le reste des actions de Jotham, toutes ses guerres, et tout ce qu’il a fait, cela est écrit dans le livre des rois d’Israël et de Juda.

9 Jotham se coucha avec ses pères, et on l’enterra dans la ville de David. Et Achaz, son fils, régna à sa place.

1 ¶ Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jeruscha, the daughter of Zadok.

Description of the reign of Jotham (BC). See # 2R 15: 32-38. Isaiah (#Esa 1:11) and Hosea (#Os 1: 1), and Micah (1 Mi 1: 1), exercised their prophetic ministry in his time.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, as all his father Ozias had done. But he did not enter the temple of the Lord. However, the people were still corrupt.
3 And Jotham built the upper gate of the house of the LORD, and made many buildings on the hillside.
Walls of the hill. Or "walls of the Ophel", on the south side of Jerusalem.
4 He built cities in the hill country of Judah, and castles and towers in the woods.
5 He was at war with the king of the children of Ammon, and overtook them. The sons of Ammon gave him that year a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand corn of wheat, and ten thousand of barley; And they paid him as much in the second and third years.
Son of Ammon. Jotham repulsed this invasion, pursued his enemies as far as their territory, and imposed upon them an annual tribute. They paid him for two years until Rezin king of Syria and Pekah king of Israel rebelled and attacked. Jotham was then too busy to care for the Ammonites (cf. # 2R 15:37).
A hundred talents. About 3.5 tons of silver.
Ten thousand measures. It can be estimated that this volume was equivalent to 3000 tonnes.
6 Jotham became mighty, because he established his ways before the LORD his God.
Jotham committed one fault: not to eliminate the high places and not to put an end to the worship of idols (see # 2Ch 27: 2; # 2R 15:35).
7 The rest of the acts of Jotham, all his wars, and all that he did, is written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
8 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.
9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
