DANIEL 7 : 16 À 28 ***
16 Je m’approchai de l’un de ceux qui étaient là, et je lui demandai ce qu’il y avait de vrai dans toutes ces choses. Il me le dit, et m’en donna l’explication:
17 Ces quatre grands animaux, ce sont quatre rois qui s’élèveront de la terre ;
18 mais les saints du Très-Haut recevront le royaume, et ils posséderont le royaume éternellement, d’éternité en éternité.
19 Ensuite je désirai savoir la vérité sur le quatrième animal, qui était différent de tous les autres, extrêmement terrible, qui avait des dents de fer et des ongles d’airain, qui mangeait, brisait, et foulait aux pieds ce qui restait ;
20 et sur les dix cornes qu’il avait à la tête, et sur l’autre qui était sortie et devant laquelle trois étaient tombées, sur cette corne qui avait des yeux, une bouche parlant avec arrogance, et une plus grande apparence que les autres.
21 Je vis cette corne faire la guerre aux saints, et l’emporter sur eux,
22 jusqu’au moment où l’ancien des jours vint donner droit aux saints du Très-Haut, et le temps arriva où les saints furent en possession du royaume.
23 Il me parla ainsi : Le quatrième animal, c’est un quatrième royaume qui existera sur la terre, différent de tous les royaumes, et qui dévorera toute la terre, la foulera et la brisera.
24 Les dix cornes, ce sont dix rois qui s’élèveront de ce royaume. Un autre s’élèvera après eux, il sera différent des premiers, et il abaissera trois rois.
25 Il prononcera des paroles contre le Très-Haut, il opprimera les saints du Très Haut, et il espérera changer les temps et la loi ; et les saints seront livrés entre ses mains pendant un temps, des temps, et la moitié d’un temps.
26 Puis viendra le jugement, et on lui ôtera sa domination, qui sera détruite et anéantie pour jamais.
27 Le règne, la domination, et la grandeur de tous les royaumes qui sont sous les cieux, seront donnés au peuple des saints du Très-Haut. Son règne est un règne éternel, et tous les dominateurs le serviront et lui obéiront.
28 Ici finirent les paroles. Moi, Daniel, je fus extrêmement troublé par mes pensées, je changeai de couleur, et je conservai ces paroles dans mon cœur.

ceux qui étaient là. Des anges aidaient Daniel à comprendre les révélations de Dieu (#Da 8:13-16 ; #Da 9:22-27).

quatre grands animaux. Les Empires symbolisés respectivement par le lion, l’ours, le léopard et l’animal terrible (vv. #Da 7:3-7) sont Babylone, l’Empire médo-perse, la Grèce et Rome. Les « rois » sont leurs plus grands dirigeants, notamment Nebucadnetsar (#Da 2:37-38), Cyrus, Alexandre le Grand et, finalement, la « petite corne », l’Antéchrist.
7:18, 22, 27
saints. Ceux qui ont mis leur confiance en Dieu possèdent le royaume dirigé par le « fils de l’homme », le Messie, aux vv. #Da 7:13-14. Tous le servent aux vv. 14 et 27, ce dernier v. exprimant clairement qu’ils servent le « Très-Haut ». De même que les quatre Empires païens ont des personnes à leur tête (cf. v. #Da 7:8 ; #Da 2:38 ; #Da 8:8), c’est Christ qui règne sur le royaume ultime.
7:18
du Très-Haut. Dans ce livre, Dieu est présenté comme supérieur à tous les dieux (#Da 2:47 ; #Da 3:29 ; #Da 4:35). C’était aussi le cas pour Melchisédek et Abraham (#Ge 14:18-20, #Ge 14: 22) ainsi que pour Naaman (#2R 5:15-17).
7:19
le quatrième animal, qui était différent. Il peut y avoir une allusion à la diversité qui caractérise cet Empire plus que les autres et à l’étendue extraordinaire de ses conquêtes (v. #Da 7:24). Il se divise en deux grandes parties (cf. « jambes », 2:33, 40), puis, vers la fin, en dix cornes (une confédération de dix nations), avec même une onzième (le royaume de l’Antéchrist), perdurant jusqu’au retour de Christ.
7:20
sur l’autre. La onzième corne (le roi et son royaume) est petite et relativement faible avant son extraordinaire montée en puissance (v. #Da 7:8). Au début de la future tribulation, elle deviendra plus « grande » ou plus puissante que toutes les autres cornes (rois) du groupe.
7:22
l’Ancien des jours. Allusion à Dieu, l’Éternel, qui accorde le royaume messianique au Fils, pour qu’il règne lors de sa seconde venue et par la suite (vv. #Da 7:13-14). Le jugement se déchaînera contre l’Antéchrist, contre Satan (qui lui confère sa puissance, #Ap 13: 4 ; #Ap 20:1-3) et contre les perdus, qui ne seront pas admis dans le royaume à son commencement mais seront détruits et attendront leur résurrection et leur jugement devant le grand trône blanc (#Ap 20:11-15).
les saints furent en possession du royaume. Les croyants prendront part à la phase terrestre du royaume, le millénium (#Ap 20:1-4), juste après le retour de Christ (#Mt 25:34), car ils posséderont la vie éternelle, destinée à se poursuivre dans l’éternité après les mille ans (#Ap 21:1-22:@).
7:24
Un autre s’élèvera après eux. La « petite corne » (l’Antéchrist) atteindra l’apogée du pouvoir mondial avec force démonstrations de puissance.
7:25
un temps, des temps, et la moitié d’un temps. Cela évoque évidemment les trois ans et demi qui représentent la deuxième moitié des sept années de pouvoir de l’Antéchrist (cf. #Da 9:27) et qui précéderont la seconde venue de Christ, « pierre » du jugement (#Da 2:35, #Da 2:45) et glorieux « fils de l’homme » (#Da 7:13-14). Cf. #Ap 11:2-3 ; #Ap 12: 14 ; #Ap 13: 5 pour la même période.
7:26
le jugement. Dieu instituera cette session du tribunal pour juger les pécheurs et le péché (vv. #Da 7:9-10). Il mettra un terme au règne de l’Antéchrist et les détruira, lui et son Empire, pour les jeter dans un enfer éternel où ils seront conscients (#Ap 19: 20 ; #Ap 20: 10).

Le règne … donnés au peuple des saints. Allusion au royaume de Dieu dans ses deux phases, terrestre (#Ap 20: 4) et éternelle (#Ap 21: 27 ; #Ap 22:3-4, #Ap 22: 14).

16 I approached one of those who were there, and I asked him what was true in all these things. He told me and gave me the explanation:
17 These four great beasts are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth;
18 But the saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.
19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass , which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet ;
20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and the other which came up , and before whom three fell , even of that horn that had eyes , and a mouth speaking great things , and greater appearance than other .
21 The same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
22 until the Ancient of days came given to the saints of the Most High , and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
23 Thus he said , The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth , different from all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth , trample it and break .
24 The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom. Another shall rise after them , he shall be diverse from the first , and he shall subdue three kings.
25 He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws ; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time .
26 But the judgment , and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy for ever.
27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him .
28 Here is the end lyrics. I, Daniel , I was extremely troubled by my thoughts, I changed color, and I kept the matter in my heart .

those who were there. Angels helped Daniel to understand the revelations of God (# Da 8:13-16 ; # Da 9:22-27 ) .
7:17
four great beasts . Empires respectively symbolized by the lion , bear, leopard and terrible animal ( vv. # Da 7:3-7 ) are Babylon, Medo -Persia , Greece and Rome. The "kings" are their greatest leaders, including Nebuchadnezzar (# Da 2:37-38 ) , Cyrus, Alexander the Great and , finally , the "little horn" , the Antichrist.

saints. Those who put their trust in God possess the kingdom ruled by the " son of man" , the Messiah, in vv . # Da 7:13-14 . All serve to vv. 14 and 27 , the latter c. Speaking clearly they serve the "Most High." As well as four pagan empires have people at their head ( cf. v. # Da 7:8 ; . # Da 2:38 ; # Da 8:8 ) , but Christ who reigns over the ultimate kingdom.

the Most High . In this book, God is presented as superior to all the gods (# Da 2:47 ; # Da 3:29 ; # Da 4:35 ) . This was also the case for Melchizedek and Abraham ( Ge 14:18-20 # , # Ge 14: 22 ) and Naaman (# 2R 5:15-17 ) .
7:19
the fourth beast, which was different. There may be an allusion to the diversity that characterizes this Empire more than others and the extraordinary extent of his conquests (see # Da 7:24 ) . It is divided into two main parts (see "legs" , 2:33 , 40) , and then , towards the end, ten horns ( a confederation of ten nations ) , even with an eleventh (the kingdom of the Antichrist ) , perduring until the return of Christ.
7:20
on the other . The eleventh horn ( the king and his kingdom ) is small and relatively weak before his extraordinary rise (see # Da 7:8 ) . At the beginning of the future tribulation , it will become "great" or more powerful than all the other horns ( kings ) of the group.
7:22
the Ancient of Days . Referring to God, the Lord, who gives the Messianic kingdom of the Son , so that reign at His second coming and then (vv. # Da 7:13-14 ) . The judgment will rage against the Antichrist, against Satan ( which gives it its power , # Rev 13 : 4; # Rev 20:1-3 ) and lost against , which will not be admitted into the kingdom at its beginning but will destroyed and await their resurrection and judgment at the great white throne ( Rev. 20:11-15 # ) .
the saints possessed the kingdom. Believers take part in the earthly phase of the kingdom, the millennium ( Rev. 20:1-4 # ), just after the return of Christ (# Mt 25:34 ) , for they shall inherit eternal life , destined to continue in the eternity after the thousand years ( Revelation 21:1-22 # : @ ) .
7:24
Another shall rise after them . The "little horn" (Antichrist ) will reach the pinnacle of world power with strength demonstrations of power.
7:25
a time, times and half a time . This obviously refers to the three and a half years, representing the second half of the seven -year rule of the Antichrist (see # Da 9:27 ) and precede the second coming of Christ, "stone" of judgment ( Da # 2: 35 # Da 2:45 ) and glorious " son of man" (# Da 7:13-14 ) . See # Rev 11:2-3 ; # Rev 12 : 14; # Rev 13 : 5 for the same period.
7:26
judgment. God will establish this session of court to judge sinners and sin (vv. # Da 7:9-10 ) . It will end the reign of the Antichrist and destroy him and his Empire , to throw in an eternal hell where they will be aware (# Rev 19: 20 , # Rev 20: 10).
7:27
The reign ... given to the people of the saints. Referring to the kingdom of God in its two phases , land (# Rev 20: 4) and eternal (# Rev 21: 27 , # Rev 22:3-4 , # Rev 22: 14).
