ÉSAÏE 22 : 12 À 25 ***
12 Le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées, vous appelle en ce jour A pleurer et à vous frapper la poitrine, A vous raser la tête et à ceindre le sac.
13 Et voici de la gaîté et de la joie ! On égorge des bœufs et l’on tue des brebis, On mange de la viande et l’on boit du vin : Mangeons et buvons, car demain nous mourrons ! —
14 L’Éternel des armées me l’a révélé: Non, ce crime ne vous sera point pardonné que vous ne soyez morts, Dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées.
15 ¶ Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées : Va vers ce courtisan, Vers Schebna, gouverneur du palais:
16 Qu’y a-t-il à toi ici, et qui as-tu ici, Que tu creuses ici un sépulcre ? Il se creuse un sépulcre sur la hauteur, Il se taille une demeure dans le roc !
17 Voici, l’Éternel te lancera d’un jet vigoureux ; Il t’enveloppera comme une pelote,
18 Il te fera rouler, rouler comme une balle, Sur une terre spacieuse ; Là tu mourras, là seront tes chars magnifiques, O toi, l’opprobre de la maison de ton maître !
19 Je te chasserai de ton poste, L’Éternel t’arrachera de ta place.
20 En ce jour-là, J’appellerai mon serviteur Eliakim, fils de Hilkija ;
21 Je le revêtirai de ta tunique, je le ceindrai de ta ceinture, Et je remettrai ton pouvoir entre ses mains ; Il sera un père pour les habitants de Jérusalem Et pour la maison de Juda.
22 Je mettrai sur son épaule la clé de la maison de David : Quand il ouvrira, nul ne fermera ; Quand il fermera, nul n’ouvrira.
23 Je l’enfoncerai comme un clou dans un lieu sûr, Et il sera un siège de gloire pour la maison de son père.
24 Il sera le soutien de toute la gloire de la maison
25 En ce jour, dit l’Éternel des armées, Le clou enfoncé dans un lieu sûr sera enlevé, Il sera abattu et tombera, Et le fardeau qui était sur lui sera détruit, Car l’Éternel a parlé.

sac … gaîté … joie. Confronté à une situation de crise qui aurait nécessité une repentance authentique, le peuple se complaisait dans les réjouissances. Voir, par contraste, la joie légitime du peuple de Dieu en #Esa 35: 10 ; #Esa 51: 11.
22: 13
Mangeons et buvons, car demain nous mourrons! Paul cite la même philosophie (#1Co 15: 32) pour dire que, si la résurrection n’est qu’un leurre, il n’y a plus qu’à profiter des plaisirs de la vie. C’est une perspective qui fait totalement fi des valeurs éternelles de Dieu.
22: 14
ne vous sera point pardonné. Ce que le Seigneur avait prédit au sujet du fruit du ministère d’Esaïe (#Esa 6: 9-10) s’accomplit ici.
22: 15
Schebna, gouverneur du palais. Probablement d’origine égyptienne, cet homme était au second rang après le roi. L’A.T. le présente par ailleurs comme un « secrétaire » (#Esa 36: 22 ; #Esa 37: 2 ; #2R 18: 37 ; #2R 19: 2), position qu’il occupa après avoir été déchu de son poste de surintendant, conformément à la prédiction d’Esaïe (voir le v. 19).

tu creuses ici un sépulcre. Pour préserver sa mémoire, Schebna s’était fait préparer une tombe digne d’un roi, alors qu’il aurait dû se préoccuper de la situation spirituelle de Juda. Le prophète condamna son arrogance.
22: 17
vigoureux. On peut aussi comprendre que ce terme (littéralement « héros ») est une désignation de Schebna conforme à l’opinion qu’il avait de lui-même.
22: 18
terre spacieuse … mourras … l’opprobre. Loin de bénéficier d’un enterrement somptueux à Jérusalem, Schebna mourrait dans la honte en terre étrangère.

te chasserai de ton poste. Son arrogance vaudrait à Schebna d’être déchu de son poste; de surintendant du roi, il deviendrait secrétaire, un peu plus tard (sous le règne d’Ézéchias) mais avant 701 av. J.-C. (#Esa 36: 1-2).

mon serviteur Éliakim. C’était grandement honorer Éliakim, celui qui remplacerait Schebna comme surintendant ou premier ministre, que de l’appeler « serviteur » de l’Eternel .

père … Juda. Le surintendant possédait l’autorité suprême, sous la supervision du roi.
22: 22
clé de la maison de David. Le pouvoir d’accorder ou de refuser l’accès au roi démontrait toute la confiance dont bénéficierait Éliakim. Appliquée à Jésus, cette expression souligne qu’il a le pouvoir de déterminer qui entrera dans son royaume davidique à venir (#Ap 3: 7).

siège de gloire. Ce trône symbolisait l’honneur qu’Eliakim allait conférer à sa famille.
22: 24
Il sera le soutien. Littéralement « ils suspendront sur lui ». Reprenant l’image du « clou » (v. #Esa 22: 23), Esaïe prédit que les descendants d’Eliakim se serviraient de lui pour leur gloire personnelle.

clou … enlevé. Après un temps de service fidèle, Eliakim trébucherait et tomberait, et tous ceux dont il était le « soutien » seraient entraînés dans sa chute.

13 And behold gaiety and joy! Cattle they slaughter and killing of sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die! -
14 The LORD of hosts has revealed to me: No, this crime will be forgiven that you are not dead, saith the Lord God of hosts.
15 ¶ Thus saith the Lord God of hosts: Go to this courtier To Shebna governor's palace:
16 What's he to you here, and whom hast thou here, What you dig here a sepulcher? He digs a grave on the height, size This one remains in the rock!
17 Behold, the LORD will launch a vigorous jet; It will envelop you like a ball,
18 He will screw you, roll like a ball into a large country; There you will die, and there will be your beautiful tanks, O thou the shame of thy lord's house!
19 And I will drive thee from thy station, The LORD shall snatch them out of your place.
20 In that day I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah;
21 I will clothe him with your robe, I him with thy girdle, and I will give thy power into his hands; He will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
22 I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David: When he shall open, and none shall shut; And he shall shut, and none shall open.
23 I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place, and he will be a seat of honor for the house of his father.
24 It will support all the glory of the house
25 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, the nail in a sure place be removed, will be shot and fall, and the burden was on him will be destroyed, for the Lord has spoken.

bag ... merriment ... joy. Faced with a crisis that would have required a genuine repentance, the people reveled in the festivities. See, in contrast, self joy of God's people in #Esa 35: 10; #Esa 51: 11.

Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die! Paul quotes the same philosophy (# 1 Cor 15: 32) to say that if the resurrection is an illusion, there has to enjoy the pleasures of life. It is a perspective that is totally ignored God's eternal values.
22: 14
You will not be forgiven. What the Lord had foretold about the fruit of the ministry of Isaiah (#Esa 6: 9-10) was accomplished here.
22: 15
Shebna governor's palace. Probably of Egyptian origin, this man was second only to the king. The A.T. presents also as a "secretary" (#Esa 36: 22; #Esa 37: 2, # 2R 18: 37; 2R # 19: 2), a position he held after being ousted from his position as Superintendent according to Isaiah's prediction (see vv. 19).
22: 16
here you dig a grave. To preserve his memory, Shebna had been preparing a tomb worthy of a king, when he should be concerned about the spiritual condition of Judah. The Prophet ordered his arrogance.
22: 17
vigorous. We can also understand that this term (literally "hero") is a designation Shebnah consistent with the view he had of himself.
22: 18
spacious land ... die ... disgrace. Far from benefiting from a sumptuous funeral in Jerusalem, Shebna die in shame in a foreign land.
10:19 p.m.
will drive you from your post. His arrogance would Shebna to be removed from office; superintendent of the king, he would become secretary later (during the reign of Hezekiah) but before 701 BC. BC (#Esa 36: 1-2).
10:20 p.m.
My servant Eliakim. It was great honor Eliakim, who would replace Shebna as superintendent or prime minister, to call it "servant" of the Lord.

father ... Judah. The superintendent held supreme authority under the supervision of the king.
22: 22
key to the house of David. The power to grant or deny access to the king showed all the confidence benefit Eliakim. Jesus applied this term emphasizes that it has the power to determine who will enter his Davidic kingdom to come (#Ap 3: 7).
22: 23
seat of glory. This throne symbolized honor qu'Eliakim would give to his family.
22: 24
It will support. Literally "they suspend him." Taking the image of the "nail" (v 22 #Esa. 23), Isaiah foretold that the descendants of Eliakim would use it for their own glory.
22: 25
nail ... removed. After a time of faithful service, Eliakim stumble and fall, and all those whom he was the "support" would be dragged down with it.
