ÉSAÏE 27 : 1 À 13 ***
1 ¶ En ce jour, l’Éternel frappera de sa dure, grande et forte épée Le léviathan, serpent fuyard, Le léviathan, serpent tortueux ; Et il tuera le monstre qui est dans la mer.
2 En ce jour-là, Chantez un cantique sur la vigne.
3 Moi l’Éternel, j’en suis le gardien, Je l’arrose à chaque instant ; De peur qu’on ne l’attaque, Nuit et jour je la garde.
4 Il n’y a point en moi de colère ; Mais si je trouve à combattre des ronces et des épines, Je marcherai contre elles, je les consumerai toutes ensemble,
5 A moins qu’on ne me prenne pour refuge, Qu’on ne fasse la paix avec moi, qu’on ne fasse la paix avec moi.
6 Dans les temps à venir, Jacob prendra racine, Israël poussera des fleurs et des rejetons, Et il remplira le monde de ses fruits.
7 ¶ L’Éternel l’a-t-il frappé comme il a frappé ceux qui le frappaient ? L’a-t-il tué comme il a tué ceux qui le tuaient ?
8 C’est avec mesure que tu l’as châtié par l’exil, En l’emportant par le souffle impétueux du vent d’orient.
9 Ainsi le crime de Jacob a été expié, Et voici le fruit du pardon de son péché : L’Éternel a rendu toutes les pierres des autels Pareilles à des pierres de chaux réduites en poussière ; Les idoles d’Astarté et les statues du soleil ne se relèveront plus.
10 Car la ville forte est solitaire, C’est une demeure délaissée et abandonnée comme le désert ; Là pâture le veau, il s’y couche, et broute les branches.
11 Quand les rameaux sèchent, on les brise ; Des femmes viennent, pour les brûler. C’était un peuple sans intelligence : Aussi celui qui l’a fait n’a point eu pitié de lui, Celui qui l’a formé ne lui a point fait grâce.
12 En ce temps-là, L’Éternel secouera des fruits, Depuis le cours du fleuve jusqu’au torrent d’Égypte ; Et vous serez ramassés un à un, enfants d’Israël !
13 En ce jour, on sonnera de la grande trompette, Et alors reviendront ceux qui étaient exilés au pays d’Assyrie Ou fugitifs au pays d’Égypte ; Et ils se prosterneront devant l’Éternel, Sur la montagne sainte, à Jérusalem.

27: 1
léviathan. Genre crocodile, terme qui apparaît dans quatre autres passages de l’A.T. (#Job 3: 8 ; #Ps 74: 14 ; #Ps 104: 26 ; #Esa 27: 1). Chaque fois, il désigne une créature puissante, capable de tuer un homme, mais qui ne peut résister devant Dieu. Puisqu’elle vit dans la mer parmi les navires (#Ps 104: 26), il pourrait s’agir d’un monstre marin disparu de nos jours, peut-être un dinosaure marin. D’autres y voient un crocodile, avec ses écailles (#Job 41: 6), ses dents redoutables (#Job 41: 5) et sa nage rapide (#Job 41: 23). Seulement, les crocodiles ne vivent pas dans la mer, comme c’est le cas de l’animal décrit en #Job 41: 22. Certains penchent pour une baleine, ou encore un grand requin blanc, parce que c’est la plus redoutable de toutes les bêtes féroces (#Job 41: 25).
27: 2-6 La vigne de l’Éternel contraste fortement avec celle de 5: 1-7. Loin de décevoir le vigneron, celle-ci porte des fruits abondants (v. #Esa 27: 6).

nuit et jour je la garde. Les provisions de Dieu pour l’Israël restauré seront sans faille.

point en moi de colère. Le temps du châtiment d’Israël par Dieu passera.
des ronces et des épines. C’est-à-dire les ennemis de son peuple.
27: 5
fasse la paix avec moi. Les ennemis d’Israël seront autorisés à faire la paix avec Dieu.

remplira le monde de ses fruits. Dans le futur royaume du Messie, l’Israël restauré régnera avec lui et remplira la terre de justice et de paix.
27: 7
l’a-t-il frappé comme il a frappé. Si Dieu traite Israël avec mesure, il n’en est pas de même pour ceux qu’il utilise en vue de corriger son peuple: sa compassion pour les autres nations a une fin.
27: 8
l’emportant par le souffle. Le Seigneur enverrait Juda en exil pour encourager son peuple à lui faire confiance.
27: 9
crime de Jacob a été expié. Jacob avait expié son péché en subissant le châtiment de Dieu.
27: 10
ville forte. Cette ville symbolisait les oppresseurs de Juda (cf. #Esa 24: 10 ; #Esa 25: 2 ; #Esa 26: 5).

n’a-t-il point eu pitié de lui. Contrairement à sa façon de traiter Israël, le Créateur portera un coup fatal à ses ennemis.

serez ramassés un à un. Après le jugement de ses ennemis, à la fin de la 70e semaine de Daniel, le reste fidèle d’Israël retournera sur sa terre (#Mt 24: 31).

adoreront l’Éternel … à Jérusalem. Le prophète revient à l’un de ses grands thèmes: le culte rendu, à l’avenir, par l’Israël rassemblé sur la montagne de Sion (#Esa 24: 23 ; #Esa 25: 6-7, #Esa 25: 10).

¶ 1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan, the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that crooked serpent; And he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.
2 In that day, sing a song on the vine.
3 I the LORD, I am the guardian, I will water it every moment; Lest any attack, Night and day I keep it.
4 There is anger in me; But if I find combat briers and thorns, I will go against them, that I may consume them all together,
5 Unless we take refuge for me, Let it make peace with me, and he shall make peace with me.
6 In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the world with fruit.
¶ 7 The LORD hath he struck as he smote those that smote him? Has he killed as he killed those who killed him?
8 In measure that you've punished by exile, in winning by the impetuous wind blowing from east.
9 Thus the crime of Jacob was expiated And the fruit of his sin the LORD made all stone altars Similar with stones chalkstones; The groves and statues of the sun rise again.
10 For the fortified city is solitary, it is a house forsaken and left like a wilderness; There shall the calf feed, there shall he lie down, and consume the branches.
11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken; Women come to the burn. It was a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on him, He who formed them will shew them no favor.
12 In those days, the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt; And you will be gathered one by one, the children of Israel!
13 On this day, we sound the great trumpet, and they shall come who were exiled to the land of Assyria and the outcasts in the land of Egypt; And shall worship the LORD in the holy mountain in Jerusalem.

27: 1
Leviathan. Type crocodile term that appears in four other passages in the OT (#Job 3: 8; #PS 74: 14; #PS 104: 26; #Esa 27: 1). Each time, it means a powerful creature capable of killing a man, but can not stand before God. Since it lives in the sea from ships (#PS 104: 26), it could be a sea monster disappeared today, maybe a marine dinosaur. Others see a crocodile, with its scales (#Job 41: 6), his formidable teeth (#Job 41: 5) and fast swimming (#Job 41: 23). Only crocodiles do not live in the sea, as is the case of the animal described in #Job 41: 22 Some favor a whale or a great white shark, because it is the most formidable all the wild beasts (#Job 41: 25).
27: 2-6 The vineyard of the Lord contrasts sharply with that of 5: 1-7. Far from disappointing the winemaker, it bears much fruit (v #Esa 27. 6).

vine. Ver. 6 identifies Israel.
27: 3
day and night I keep it. Provisions of God to Israel will be restored flawlessly.
27: 4
anger in me. Time for punishment of Israel by God happen.
briers and thorns. That is to say, the enemies of his people.
27: 5
make peace with me. Israel's enemies will be allowed to make peace with God.
27: 6
fill the world with fruit. In the future kingdom of the Messiah, the restored Israel will reign with him and fill the earth with justice and peace.
27: 7
did he hit as he hit. God deals with Israel extent it is not the same for those he uses to correct his people, his compassion for other nations to an end.
27: 8
winning by the blast. The Lord would send Judah exiled to encourage his people to trust him.
27: 9
Jacob crime was expiated. Jacob had atoned for his sin by suffering the punishment of God.
27: 10
strong city. This city symbolizes the oppressors of Judah (cf. #Esa 24: 10; #Esa 25: 2; #Esa 26: 5).

did he have mercy on him. Unlike its treatment of Israel, the Creator will be fatal to his enemies.

be gathered one by one. After the judgment of his enemies at the end of the 70th week of Daniel, the faithful remnant of Israel will return to their land (#Mt 24: 31).

love the Lord ... in Jerusalem. The prophet returns to one of its main themes: the worship, in the future, by Israel gathered on Mount Zion (#Esa 24: 23; #Esa 25: 6-7, 25 #Esa: 10).
