1 ¶ Oracle sur Moab. La nuit même où elle est ravagée, Ar-Moab est détruite ! La nuit même où elle est ravagée, Kir-Moab est détruite ! …
2 On monte au temple et à Dibon, Sur les hauts lieux, pour pleurer ; Moab est en lamentations, sur Nebo et sur Médeba : Toutes les têtes sont rasées, Toutes les barbes sont coupées.
3 Dans les rues, ils sont couverts de sacs ; Sur les toits et dans les places, Tout gémit et fond en larmes.
4 Hesbon et Elealé poussent des cris, On entend leur voix jusqu’à Jahats ; Même les guerriers de Moab se lamentent, Ils ont l’effroi dans l’âme.
5 Mon cœur gémit sur Moab, Dont les fugitifs se sauvent jusqu’à Tsoar, Jusqu’à Eglath-Schelischija ; Car ils font, en pleurant, la montée de Luchith, Et ils jettent des cris de détresse sur le chemin de Choronaïm ;
6 ¶ Car les eaux de Nimrim sont ravagées, L’herbe est desséchée, le gazon est détruit, La verdure a disparu.
7 C’est pourquoi ils ramassent ce qui leur reste, Et ils transportent leurs biens au-delà du torrent des saules.
8 Car les cris environnent les frontières de Moab ; Ses lamentations retentissent jusqu’à Eglaïm, Ses lamentations retentissent jusqu’à Beer-Elim.
9 Les eaux de Dimon sont pleines de sang, Et j’enverrai sur Dimon de nouveaux malheurs, Un lion contre les réchappés de Moab, Contre le reste du pays.

Moab. Le territoire de Moab s’étendait sur environ 75 km², à l’est de la mer Morte, au sud de l’Arnon et au nord du Zéred.
Ar-Moab … Kir-Moab. Deux des villes les plus importantes en Moab.
15:2
Dibon. C’était le lieu où se situait le temple du dieu moabite Kemosch, à 5 km au nord de l’Arnon. L’endroit était approprié pour des lamentations, vu l’incapacité de ce dieu à délivrer son peuple.
Nebo … Médeba. Nebo était la montagne, située à l’extrémité nord de la mer Morte, où Dieu avait emmené Moïse contempler le pays promis (#De 34:1). Médeba se trouvait à 8 km au sud-est du mont Nebo.
les têtes sont rasées, toutes les barbes. On se rasait la tête et la barbe pour exprimer le déshonneur et l’humiliation (#Esa 22:12 ; #Lé 21:5 ; #Jér 41:5 ; #Jér 48:37).

sacs. La Bible contient 46 cas de port du « sac » en signe de deuil.

Hesbon et Elealé … Jahats. La ville de Hesbon se trouvait à une trentaine de km à l’est de l’extrémité nord de la mer Morte, sur un territoire revendiqué à la fois par Israël et par Moab (#De 2:32-33). Elealé se trouvait à moins de 2 km de Hesbon, et Jahats à plus de 16 km au sud.

Mon cœur gémit. Cette prophétie exprime une bien plus grande compassion pour le sort de Moab que pour celui des autres nations destinées à subir le jugement. Elle prévoit même la présence de survivants (#Esa 16:11, #Esa 16:14).
Eglath-Schelischija. Ville dont la localisation est inconnue.
Luchith … Choronaïm. Deux autres villes dont la localisation est inconnue.
15:6
eaux de Nimrim. Il s’agit peut-être de l’oued Nemeira, dont l’assèchement sur fond d’herbes mortes illustre la dévastation qui devait frapper Moab.
15:7
torrent des saules. Sans doute le Zéred; les réfugiés de Moab devaient traverser ce gué pour passer en Edom et échapper à leurs envahisseurs.

Eglaïm … Beer-Elim. Les cris de fugitifs pourraient s’entendre du nord (Eglaïm) au sud d’Edom (Beer-Elim).
15:9
Dimon. Probablement une orthographe différente de « Dibon » (cf. v. #Esa 15:2). Ce centre religieux païen représentait de façon appropriée tout le pays de Moab.
lion. Fuir devant les armées ennemies ne garantirait pas la sécurité, ce serait aller au-devant de nouveaux dangers, notamment celui de tomber entre les griffes des bêtes sauvages de la forêt.

2 is up to the temple and to Dibon, the high places, to weep Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba Every head is shaved and every beard cut off.
3 In the streets, they are covered with sackcloth; On rooftops and in the streets, every one shall howl, weeping.
4 Heshbon and Elealeh cries, their voice is heard even to Jahaz; Even the warriors of Moab cry, They fear into the soul.
5 My heart shall cry out for Moab; fugitives flee to Zoar, Up Eglath Shelishiyah; As they are, crying, rising Luchith, and they throw distress calls on the way to Horonaim;
¶ 6 For the waters of Nimrim are ravaged, the grass is dry, the grass is destroyed, the green is gone.
7 Therefore they pick up what is left, and they carry beyond the brook of the willows.
8 For the cry about the borders of Moab; Its wailing to eglaim, its wailing to Beer Elim.
9 For the waters of Dimon are full of blood, and I will send on Dimon, a lion against the remnant of Moab, and upon the rest of the country.

Moab. The territory of Moab extends approximately 75 kilometers, east of the Dead Sea, south of the Arnon and north of Zered.

Dibon. It was the place where stood the temple of the god Chemosh Moabite, 5 km north of the Arnon. The place was suitable for lamentation, given the inability of this god to deliver his people.
Nebo ... Medeba. Nebo was the mountain, located at the northern end of the Dead Sea, where God took Moses behold the promised land (# of 34: 1). Medeba was 8 km southeast of Mount Nebo.
the head is shaved and every beard. We shaved his head and beard to express the shame and humiliation (#Esa 10:12 p.m.; Lev # 21: 5; # Jer 41: 5; # Jer 48:37).

My heart cries. This prophecy expressed much greater sympathy for the fate of Moab than that of other nations for undergoing the trial. It even provides for the presence of survivors (#Esa 4:11 p.m., 4:14 p.m. #Esa).
Eglath Shelishiyah. City whose location is unknown.
Luchith ... Horonaim. Two other cities whose location is unknown.

Nimrim water. This perhaps is the wadi Nemeira including drying amid dead grass illustrates the devastation that had hit Moab.
15: 7
torrent willows. Probably the Zered; Refugees Moab had to cross the ford to enter Edom and escape their invaders.
15: 8
Eglaim ... Beer-Elim. The cries of the fugitives could hear the north (eglaim) south of Edom (Beer-Elim).
15: 9
Dimon. Probably a different spelling of "Dibon" (see verse 15 #Esa. 2). This pagan religious center correctly represent all the land of Moab.
lion. Flee before the armies would not guarantee security, it would reach out to new dangers, such as falling into the clutches of the beasts of the forest.
