ÉSAÏE 51 : 1 À 8 ***
1 ¶ Écoutez-moi, vous qui poursuivez la justice, Qui cherchez l’Éternel ! Portez les regards sur le rocher d’où vous avez été taillés, Sur le creux de la fosse d’où vous avez été tirés.
2 Portez les regards sur Abraham votre père, Et sur Sara qui vous a enfantés ; Car lui seul je l’ai appelé, Je l’ai béni et multiplié.
3 Ainsi l’Éternel a pitié de Sion, Il a pitié de toutes ses ruines ; Il rendra son désert semblable à un Éden, Et sa terre aride à un jardin de l’Éternel. La joie et l’allégresse se trouveront au milieu d’elle, Les actions de grâces et le chant des cantiques.
4 ¶ Mon peuple, sois attentif ! Ma nation, prête-moi l’oreille ! Car la loi sortira de moi, Et j’établirai ma loi pour être la lumière des peuples.
5 Ma justice est proche, mon salut va paraître, Et mes bras jugeront les peuples ; Les îles espéreront en moi, Elles se confieront en mon bras.
6 Levez les yeux vers le ciel, et regardez en bas sur la terre ! Car les cieux s’évanouiront comme une fumée, La terre tombera en lambeaux comme un vêtement, Et ses habitants périront comme des mouches ; Mais mon salut durera éternellement, Et ma justice n’aura point de fin.
7 Écoutez-moi, vous qui connaissez la justice, Peuple, qui a ma loi dans ton cœur ! Ne craignez pas l’opprobre des hommes, Et ne tremblez pas devant leurs outrages.
8 Car la teigne les dévorera comme un vêtement, Et la gerce les rongera comme de la laine ; Mais ma justice durera éternellement, Et mon salut s’étendra d’âge en âge.

51:1-2 Le prophète assura la nation de la délivrance à venir en rappelant l’alliance conclue avec Abraham (#Ge 12:1-3), le « rocher » à partir duquel tout le peuple avait été taillé. Dieu avait multiplié ses descendants, comme il le lui avait promis (#Ge 13: 16 ; #Ge 15: 5 ; #Ge 17: 5 ; #Ge 22: 17).
51:3
ses ruines … Éden … terre aride … jardin de l’Éternel. Le Dieu qui avait, par sa puissance, accompli les promesses faites à Abraham serait aussi celui qui transformerait la désolation d’Israël en un paradis, aussi bien d’un point de vue national que spirituel, ce qui entraînerait des cris de joie et de reconnaissance.
51:4
loi … ma loi … lumière des peuples. Le règne du « serviteur » sur le royaume terrestre d’Israël fera prévaloir la justice, et ce au bénéfice de toutes les nations.
51:5
proche … va paraître. La puissance du « serviteur » était à l’œuvre pour restaurer son peuple et amener le salut, la justice et la droiture dans le monde, mais la perspective divine diffère radicalement de la perception humaine du temps. Bien que « proche », dans la perspective divine (qui est celle de l’éternité), la concrétisation de cette délivrance ne devait intervenir que de nombreux siècles après l’époque d’Esaïe. Les nations qui survivront au jugement placeront leur confiance en Dieu et entreront dans son royaume.
51:6
les cieux s’évanouiront … la terre tombera en lambeaux. Ces événements commenceront à prendre place lors de la tribulation (cf. #Ap 6:12-14 ; #Ap 8:12-13 ; #Ap 16:8-10, #Ap 16: 21) et ouvriront la voie, parallèlement aux châtiments que subiront la terre, la mer et l’eau potable (cf. #Ap 6:14 ; #Ap 8:6-11 ; #Ap 16:3-5), à la terre renouvelée du millénium. La « décréation » ou destruction effective de l’univers actuel, dont il est fait mention en #2P 3:10-13, interviendra à la fin du règne millénaire de Christ sur la terre; une nouvelle terre et de nouveaux cieux remplaceront alors la création actuelle (#2P 3:10 ; #Ap 21: 1).
51:7-8 Les ennemis d’Israël périront, mais le salut du « serviteur » sera éternel.
ISAIAH 51 : 1 TO 8 ***
1 ¶ Hear me, ye that follow after righteousness, that seek the LORD! Look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.
2 Look to Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you; Because only I called him, I blessed him and multiplied.
3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.
4 ¶ My people, listen! My countrymen, lend me your ears! For the law shall proceed from me, and I will establish my justice for a light to the nations.
5 My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the peoples; The islands shall wait for me, they trust in my arms.
6 Look up at the sky and look down on the earth! For the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and its inhabitants will die like flies; But my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall be no end.
7 Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people, which my law in your heart! Do not fear the reproach of men, neither be dismayed at their insults.
8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool; But my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation from generation to generation.

51: 1-2 The prophet assured the nation of deliverance to come recalling the covenant with Abraham (#Ge 12: 1-3), the "rock" from which all the people had been cut. God had multiplied his descendants, as he had promised (#Ge 13: 16; #Ge 15: 5; #Ge 17: 5; #Ge 22: 17).
51: 3
its ruins ... ... dry land ... Eden garden of the Lord. The God who, by his power, fulfilled the promises made to Abraham would be as one that would transform the desolation of Israel in a paradise, both from a national perspective and spiritual, resulting cries of joy and recognition.
51: 4
law ... ... light my law of nations. The reign of the "servant" on the earthly kingdom of Israel will justice prevail, to the benefit of all nations.
51: 5
close ... will appear. The power of the "servant" was at work to restore his people and bring salvation, justice and righteousness in the world, but God's perspective is radically different from the human perception of time. Although "close" in the divine perspective (which is that of eternity), the realization of this issue should not intervene many centuries after the time of Isaiah. The nations that will survive the judgment place their trust in God and enter into his kingdom.
51: 6
the heavens shall vanish away ... the earth shall wax. These events begin to take place during the tribulation (cf. #Ap 6: 12-14; #Ap 8: 12-13; #Ap 16: 8-10, #Ap 16: 21) and open the way, in parallel with punishment that will suffer the land, sea and drinking water (cf. 6:14 #Ap; #Ap 8: 6-11; #Ap 16: 3-5), land renewed the millennium. The "discreation" or actual destruction of the present universe, which is mentioned in # 2 Pet 3: 10-13, will speak at the end of the millennial reign of Christ on earth; a new earth and new heaven will then replace the current setting (# 2P 3:10; #Ap 21: 1).
51: 7-8 Israel's enemies will perish, but the salvation of the "servant" will be eternal.
