ÉSAÏE 7 : 10 À 16 ***
10 ¶ L’Éternel parla de nouveau à Achaz, et lui dit:
11 Demande en ta faveur un signe à l’Éternel, ton Dieu ; demande-le, soit dans les lieux bas, soit dans les lieux élevés.
12 Achaz répondit : Je ne demanderai rien, je ne tenterai pas l’Éternel.
13 Esaïe dit alors : Écoutez donc, maison de David ! Est-ce trop peu pour vous de lasser la patience des hommes, Que vous lassiez encore celle de mon Dieu ?
14 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur lui-même vous donnera un signe, Voici, la jeune fille deviendra enceinte, elle enfantera un fils, Et elle lui donnera le nom d’Emmanuel.
15 Il mangera de la crème et du miel, Jusqu’à ce qu’il sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien.
16 Mais avant que l’enfant sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien, Le pays dont tu crains les deux rois sera abandonné.

7:11
un signe. Pour encourager la foi d’Achaz, le Seigneur lui offrit un signe, mais celui-ci le refusa avec une humilité feinte (v. #Esa 7:12).
7:13
maison de David. Face au refus d’Achaz, le prophète élargit son propos à tout son public (voir v. 2), pour y inclure toute la maison incrédule de David. Toute la nation se rendait coupable d’épuiser la patience de Dieu (#Esa 1:14). 7:14
signe. Puisque le roi refusait de choisir un signe (vv. #Esa 7:11-12), Dieu le choisit lui-même. C’était un signe dont l’accomplissement s’étendrait bien au-delà de la vie d’Achaz.
la vierge. Cette prophétie annonçait la naissance virginale du Messie, comme le note le N.T. (#Mt 1:23). Le mot hébreu désignait une jeune fille non mariée et « vierge » (#Ge 24: 43 ; #Pr 30:19 ; #Ca 1:3 ; #Ca 6:8), de sorte que la naissance du fils d’Esaïe (#Esa 8:3) ne remplissait pas totalement les conditions. Cf. #Ge 3:15.
Emmanuel. Ce titre, appliqué à Jésus en #Mt 1:23, signifie « Dieu avec nous ».
7:15
crème et du miel. La crème venait du lait coagulé et ressemblait à du fromage blanc. Ce régime alimentaire était synonyme de manque de ressources et caractéristique de la période qui suivait une invasion par des forces étrangères, car elles mettaient le pays à sac.
7:16
rejeter le mal. Avant que le fils promis à Esaïe ne soit assez âgé pour faire ses propres choix moraux, les rois de Syrie et d’Ephraïm allaient trouver la mort entre les mains des Assyriens.

10 ¶ And the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, and said:
11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in high places.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, I do not tempt Jehovah.
13 Isaiah said, Hear now, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15 He will eat curds and honey, until he shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.

7:11
a sign. To encourage Ahaz faith, the Lord gave him a sign, but he refused it with feigned humility (see # Isa 7:12).
7:13
house of David. Faced with the refusal of Ahaz, the prophet expands its about all his public (see vv. 2) to include all the unbelieving house of David. The whole nation was guilty of exhausting the patience of God (# Isa 1:14). 7:14
sign. Since the king refused to choose a sign (vv. # Esa 7:11-12), God himself chooses. It was a sign that the performance would go far beyond the life of Ahaz.
virgin. This prophecy announced the virgin birth of the Messiah, as noted in the NT (# Mt 1:23). The Hebrew word meant a young "virgin" and unmarried daughter (# Ge 24: 43, # Pr 30:19; # 1:3 Ca, Ca # 6:8), so that the birth of the son of Isaiah (# Esa 8:3) does not fully meet the conditions. See # Ge 3:15.
Emmanuel. This title, applied to Jesus in # Mt 1:23, means "God with us."
7:15
cream and honey. Cream had coagulated milk and looked like cottage cheese. This diet was synonymous with lack of resources and characteristic of the period following an invasion by foreign forces since they put the country bag.
7:16
reject evil. Before the promised son Isaiah is old enough to make their own moral choices, the kings of Syria and Ephraim would find death at the hands of the Assyrians.
