22 ¶ C’est pourquoi, Oholiba, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Voici, j’excite contre toi tes amants, Ceux dont ton cœur s’est détaché, Et je les amène de toutes parts contre toi ;
23 Les enfants de Babylone et tous les Chaldéens, Nobles, princes et seigneurs, Et tous les enfants de l’Assyrie avec eux, Jeunes et charmants, Tous gouverneurs et chefs, Chefs illustres, Tous montés sur des chevaux.
24 Ils marchent contre toi avec des armes, des chars et des roues, Et une multitude de peuples ; Avec le grand bouclier et le petit bouclier, avec les casques, Ils s’avancent de toutes parts contre toi. Je leur remets le jugement, Et ils te jugeront selon leurs lois.
25 Je répands ma colère sur toi, Et ils te traiteront avec fureur. Ils te couperont le nez et les oreilles, Et ce qui reste de toi tombera par l’épée ; Ils prendront tes fils et tes filles, Et ce qui reste de toi sera dévoré par le feu.
26 Ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, Et ils enlèveront les ornements dont tu te pares.
27 Je mettrai fin à tes crimes Et à tes prostitutions du pays d’Egypte ; Tu ne porteras plus tes regards vers eux, Tu ne penseras plus à l’Egypte.
28 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel: Voici, je te livre entre les mains de ceux que tu hais, Entre les mains de ceux dont ton cœur s’est détaché.
29 Ils te traiteront avec haine ; Ils enlèveront toutes tes richesses, Et te laisseront nue, entièrement nue ; La honte de tes impudicités sera découverte, De tes crimes et de tes prostitutions.
30 Ces choses t’arriveront, Parce que tu t’es prostituée aux nations, Parce que tu t’es souillée par leurs idoles.
31 Tu as marché dans la voie de ta sœur, Et je mets sa coupe dans ta main.
32 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Tu boiras la coupe de ta sœur, Tu la boiras large et profonde ; Elle te rendra un objet de risée et de moquerie ; Elle contient beaucoup.
33 Tu seras remplie d’ivresse et de douleur ; C’est la coupe de désolation et de destruction, La coupe de ta sœur Samarie.
34 Tu la boiras, tu la videras, Tu la briseras en morceaux, Et tu te déchireras le sein. Car j’ai parlé, Dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel.
35 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Parce que tu m’as oublié, Parce que tu m’as rejeté derrière ton dos, Porte donc aussi la peine de tes crimes et de tes prostitutions.

j’excite … tes amants. Dans sa colère face au péché de Juda, Dieu poussa les Babyloniens, ainsi que d’autres nations, à traiter son peuple avec la plus grande dureté. Ce passage montre comment les nations voisines de Juda servirent d’instruments pour le jugement de Dieu.

Tu boiras la coupe de ta sœur. Juda allait faire connaissance avec la « coupe » du jugement de Dieu, comme cela avait été le cas de Samarie en 722 av. J.-C. (cf. vv. #Éz 23:46-49). Souvent, l’idée de « boire la coupe » est synonyme de subir la colère divine (cf. #Ps 75:9 ; #Esa 51:17-22 ; #Jér 25: 15-29 ; #Mt 20: 22).

22 ¶ Therefore , Oholibah , thus saith the Lord GOD : Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you , whom thy heart is detached, and I will bring all sides against you;
23 the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans , Nobles, princes and lords , and all the Assyrians with them, young and charming , all governors and chiefs of renown , all of them riding on horses .
24 And they shall come against you with weapons, chariots and wagons, and a multitude of people ; With the large shield and small shield , with helmets, They advance on all sides against you. I will commit the judgment , and they shall judge thee according to their judgments .
25 I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously. They will cut off your nose and ears , and what is left shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy son and thy daughters , and the rest of you will be devoured by fire.
26 They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes , and take away thy fair jewels ornaments .
27 I will put an end to your lewdness and your prostitution of Egypt , you shall not lift up thine eyes unto them, You do not remember Egypt .
28 For thus saith the Lord GOD : Behold, I will deliver you into the hands of those whom you hate , into the hand of them from whom thy heart is detached .
29 They will treat you with hatred, and shall take away all thy labor, and shall leave thee naked and bare , the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms .
30 These things shall come to thee , Because you prostitute yourself to the nations , because thou art polluted with their idols .
31 Thou hast walked in the way of your sister , and I give her cup into your hand .
32 Thus saith the Lord GOD : You will drink the cup of your sister, you shall drink deep and wide , It will make you an object of scorn and derision , it contains much .
33 Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation , with the cup of thy sister Samaria.
34 You shall drink , thou drain it , you will break the pieces, and tear your breasts . For I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD .
35 Wherefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast forgotten me , Because thou hast cast me behind thy back , therefore bear also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms .

I excite ... your lovers . In his anger at sin of Judah , God gave the Babylonians, and other nations, to treat his people with the greatest hardness. This passage shows how the neighboring nations of Judah served as instruments for God's judgment .

will cut your nose and ears. The atrocities committed by Babylon included disfigurement, formerly a punishment meted out to adulteresses Egypt, Chaldea and elsewhere.

You will drink the cup of your sister. Judah was to become acquainted with the "cup" of God's judgment , as was the case of Samaria in 722 BC. BC ( cf. vv. Ezekiel 23:46-49 # ) . Often , the idea of " drink the cup " stands to suffer the wrath of God (cf. Ps 75:9 # , # Isa 51:17-22 ; # Jer 25: 15-29 ; # Mt 20: 22).
