ÉZÉKIEL 29 : 1 À 6 ***
1 ¶ La dixième année, le douzième jour du dixième mois, la parole de l’Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
2 Fils de l’homme, tourne ta face vers Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, Et prophétise contre lui et contre toute l’Egypte !
3 Parle, et tu diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Voici, j’en veux à toi, Pharaon, roi d’Egypte, Grand crocodile, qui te couches au milieu de tes fleuves, Et qui dis : Mon fleuve est à moi, c’est moi qui l’ai fait !
4 Je mettrai une boucle à tes mâchoires, J’attacherai à tes écailles les poissons de tes fleuves, Et je te tirerai du milieu de tes fleuves, Avec tous les poissons qui s’y trouvent Et qui seront attachés à tes écailles.
5 Je te jetterai dans le désert, Toi et tous les poissons de tes fleuves. Tu tomberas sur la face des champs, Tu ne seras ni relevé ni ramassé ; Aux bêtes de la terre et aux oiseaux du ciel Je te donnerai pour pâture.
6 Et tous les habitants de l’Egypte sauront que je suis l’Eternel, Parce qu’ils ont été un soutien de roseau pour la maison d’Israël.

La dixième année. 587 av. J.-C. correspond à la dixième année après la déportation de Jojakin. On se situait un an et deux jours après l’arrivée de Nebucadnetsar à Jérusalem (#Ez 24:1-2 ; #2R 25:1), et sept mois avant la destruction de cette ville (#2R 25:3-8). C’est le premier de sept oracles contre l’Egypte (cf. #Ez 29:17, #Ez 30:1, #Ez 32:1, #Ez 32:17).
29:2
contre toute l’Egypte. Cf. #Esa 19 ; #Jér 46:1-26. C’était au tour de l’Egypte de s’effondrer, même si l’on pouvait l’assimiler à un « grand crocodile » (vv. #Ez 29:3, #Ez 32:2-8), à un grand arbre comme l’Assyrie (#Ez 31:3) ou à un « lionceau » (#Ez 32:2). Ce jugement vise l’an 570 av. J.-C., où les Grecs de Cyrène battirent le Pharaon Hophra (Apries), et 568/567 av. J.-C., où Babylone conquit l’Egypte.
29:3
grand crocodile. Le terme hébreu peut désigner un serpent ou un monstre, mais il s’agit probablement du crocodile. Ce reptile infestait les fleuves et faisait l’objet d’un culte chez les Egyptiens. L’hébreu employait généralement un autre terme, Rahab, pour désigner un monstre qui symbolisait fréquemment l’Egypte. Grand crocodile est en grec (μεγάλε δράκων) aussi sous le nom de grand dragon.
29:4
les poissons de tes fleuves. Allusion aux peuples qui se rangèrent du côté du Pharaon et qui étaient, à ce titre, impliqués dans les jugements portés par Dieu contre l’Egypte dans son ensemble (vv. #Ez 29:5-6a).
29:6
un soutien de roseau. Les Israélites s’étaient appuyés sur leur alliance militaire avec les Egyptiens comme on s’appuie sur une canne qui casse: ils avaient été déçus. Les Egyptiens avaient trahi leur confiance, comme Dieu le leur avait annoncé (cf. #Jér 17:5, #Jér 17:7). Le fait qu’Israël n’aurait jamais dû se reposer sur l’Egypte n’enlevait rien à la sévérité du jugement contre ce pays.

¶ 1 In the tenth year , the twelfth day of the tenth month, the word of the LORD came unto me , saying :
2 Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt , and prophesy against him and against all Egypt !
3 Speak , and say , Thus saith the Lord GOD : Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river to me , it was me who did it!
4 But I will put hooks in your jaws , I stick to your scales the fish of thy rivers, and I will shoot you in the midst of his rivers , and all the fish therein shall stick unto thy scales .
5 I will throw you in the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers . Thou shalt fall upon the open field , Thou shalt nor gathered , to the beasts of the earth and birds of the sky I'll give you for food .
6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD , because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

The tenth year. 587 BC . AD is the tenth year after the deportation of Jehoiachin . We stood one year and two days after the arrival of Nebuchadnezzar to Jerusalem ( Ez 24:1-2 # , # 2R 25:1) , and seven months before the destruction of the city (# 2R 25:3-8 ) . large crocodile. The Hebrew term may designate a serpent or a monster, but it is probably the crocodile. This reptile infested rivers and was the object of worship among the Egyptians . Hebrew generally employed another term, Rahab , to designate a monster frequently symbolized Egypt. the fish of thy rivers. Referring to people who sided with the Pharaoh and were , as such , involved in the judgments of God against Egypt as a whole ( vv. # Ez 29:5 - 6a).
29:6
support Reed . The Israelites had relied on their military alliance with the Egyptians as we rely on a cane that breaks : they were disappointed. The Egyptians had betrayed their trust , as God had told them (cf. Jer 17:5 # , # Jer 17:7 ) . That Israel should never have to rely on Egypt did not detract from the severity of the judgment against the country.
