ÉZÉKIEL 29 : 7 À 12 ***
7 Lorsqu’ils t’ont pris dans la main, tu t’es rompu, Et tu leur as déchiré toute l’épaule ; Lorsqu’ils se sont appuyés sur toi, tu t’es brisé, Et tu as rendu leurs reins immobiles.
8 ¶ C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Voici, je ferai venir contre toi l’épée, Et j’exterminerai du milieu de toi les hommes et les bêtes.
9 Le pays d’Egypte deviendra une solitude et un désert. Et ils sauront que je suis l’Eternel, Parce qu’il a dit : Le fleuve est à moi, c’est moi qui l’ai fait !
10 C’est pourquoi voici, j’en veux à toi et à tes fleuves, Et je ferai du pays d’Egypte un désert et une solitude, Depuis Migdol jusqu’à Syène et aux frontières de l’Ethiopie.
11 Nul pied d’homme n’y passera, Nul pied d’animal n’y passera, Et il restera quarante ans sans être habité.
12 Je ferai du pays d’Egypte une solitude entre les pays dévastés, Et ses villes seront désertes entre les villes désertes, Pendant quarante ans. Je répandrai les Egyptiens parmi les nations, Je les disperserai en divers pays.

depuis Migdol jusqu’à Syène. Cette zone couvrait tout le territoire égyptien, puisque Migdol (#Ex 14:2) se trouvait au nord et Syène à la frontière sud, celle qui bordait « l’Ethiopie ».

quarante ans sans être habité. Il est difficile de situer cette période, mais elle correspond peut-être à celle où Babylone, sous le règne de Nebucadnetsar, exerça le pouvoir en Egypte (vv. #Ez 29:19-20, entre 568/567 av. J.-C. et 525 av. J.-C.), jusqu’au moment où Cyrus prit le contrôle de la Perse.

7 When they took you in hand , you're upset you, and you rend all their shoulder when they leaned upon thee, thou art broken thee, and madest all their loins .
8 ¶ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will bring you against the sword, and will cut off from you man and beast .
9 The land of Egypt shall be desolate and deserted. And they shall know that I am the LORD , because he hath said, The river is mine, it was me who did it!
10 Therefore , behold, I am against thee , and against thy rivers , and I will make the land of Egypt desolate, and desolation, from Migdol to Syene and the frontiers of Ethiopia.
11 No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, it will not be inhabited forty years .
12 I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated countries , and her cities shall be desolate among desolate cities , forty years . I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations , and will disperse them through the countries .

forty years without being inhabited. It is difficult to locate this period, but it is perhaps one where Babylon, in the reign of Nebuchadnezzar , exercised power in Egypt (vv. # Ez 29:19-20 , between 568/567 BCE: . - C. and 525 B.C. ) , until Cyrus took control of Persia.
