ÉZÉKIEL 8 : 14-15-16-17-18 ***
14 Et il me conduisit à l’entrée de la porte de la maison de l’Eternel, du côté du septentrion. Et voici, il y avait là des femmes assises, qui pleuraient Thammuz.
15 Et il me dit : Vois-tu, fils de l’homme ? Tu verras encore d’autres abominations plus grandes que celles-là.
16 Et il me conduisit dans le parvis intérieur de la maison de l’Eternel. Et voici, à l’entrée du temple de l’Eternel, entre le portique et l’autel, il y avait environ vingt-cinq hommes, tournant le dos au temple de l’Eternel et le visage vers l’orient ; et ils se prosternaient à l’orient devant le soleil.
17 Et il me dit : Vois-tu, fils de l’homme ? Est-ce trop peu pour la maison de Juda de commettre les abominations qu’ils commettent ici ? Faut-il encore qu’ils remplissent le pays de violence, et qu’ils ne cessent de m’irriter ? Voici, ils approchent le rameau de leur nez.
18 Moi aussi, j’agirai avec fureur ; mon œil sera sans pitié, et je n’aurai point de miséricorde ; quand ils crieront à haute voix à mes oreilles, je ne les écouterai pas.

pleuraient Thammuz. Une abomination encore plus grave que le culte secret rendu par les anciens de Juda était commise: on adorait le dieu babylonien Thammuz ou Dumuzi, bien-aimé d’Ishtar, dieu de la végétation printanière. La végétation était brûlée en été, périssait en hiver et revenait à la vie au printemps. Les femmes pleuraient le décès du dieu en juillet et attendaient avec impatience son réveil. Le quatrième mois du calendrier hébreu porte toujours son nom. Le culte rendu à cette idole était associé aux pires actes d’immoralité.

se prosternaient … devant le soleil. Ils le faisaient dans le parvis intérieur sacré, qui n’était accessible qu’aux sacrificateurs (#Joe 2:17), et c’était l’insulte suprême envers Dieu. Ces 25 hommes adoraient le soleil, dont ils avaient fait une idole (cf. #De 4:19 ; #2R 23:5, #2R 23:11 ; #Job 31:26-28 ; #Jér 44:17). Leur nombre représentait les 24 classes de sacrificateurs, plus le souverain sacrificateur.

approchent le rameau de leur nez. Le sens est incertain, mais il semble qu’ils se soient livrés à des actes de mépris envers Dieu. La LXX porte « sont comme des moqueurs ».
8:18
j’agirai avec fureur. Dieu ne peut juger qu’avec la plus grande sévérité des péchés aussi horribles (cf. #Ez 24:9-10).

14 And he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of the LORD toward the north . And behold, there was sat women weeping for Tammuz .
15 And he said unto me , Seest thou , son of man? You will see still greater abominations than these .
16 And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD . And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the LORD , between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men , with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east , and they bowed to the east before the sun.
17 And he said unto me , Seest thou , son of man? Is it too little for the house of Judah to commit the abominations which they commit here? Should they have filled the land with violence , and have returned to provoke me to anger ? Here , they put the branch to their nose.
18 I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; though they cry aloud to my ears, I will not listen .

weeping for Tammuz . An even more serious than the secret worship by the elders of Judah had committed abomination : the Babylonian god Tammuz or Dumuzi was worshiped beloved of Ishtar , the god of spring vegetation . Vegetation was burned in summer, perished in winter and came back to life in spring. The women were crying the death of god in July and eagerly awaiting its awakening. The fourth month of the Hebrew calendar still bears his name . The worship this idol was associated with the worst acts of immorality.

bowed ... before the sun. They did in the sacred inner court , which was accessible only to priests (# Joe 2:17 ) , and this was the ultimate insult to God. These 25 men worshiped the sun , which they had made an idol (see # De 4:19 ; # 2R 23:5 , 11:11 p.m. # 2R , # Job 31:26-28 ; # Jer 44:17 ) . Number represented 24 classes of priests , plus the high priest .

put the branch to their nose. The meaning is uncertain, but they seem to be engaged in acts of contempt for God. LXX door " scoffers are like ."
8:18
I deal in fury . God can judge with the greatest severity of such horrible sins (cf. Ez 24:9-10 # ) .
