ÉZÉKIEL 8 : 7-8-9-10-11-12-13 ***
7 ¶ Alors il me conduisit à l’entrée du parvis. Je regardai, et voici, il y avait un trou dans le mur.
8 Et il me dit : Fils de l’homme, perce la muraille ! Je perçai la muraille, et voici, il y avait une porte.
9 Et il me dit : Entre, et vois les méchantes abominations qu’ils commettent ici !
10 J’entrai, et je regardai ; et voici, il y avait toutes sortes de figures de reptiles et de bêtes abominables, et toutes les idoles de la maison d’Israël, peintes sur la muraille tout autour.
11 Soixante-dix hommes des anciens de la maison d’Israël, au milieu desquels était Jaazania, fils de Schaphan, se tenaient devant ces idoles, chacun l’encensoir à la main, et il s’élevait une épaisse nuée d’encens.
12 Et il me dit : Fils de l’homme, vois-tu ce que font dans les ténèbres les anciens de la maison d’Israël, chacun dans sa chambre pleine de figures ? Car ils disent : L’Eternel ne nous voit pas, l’Eternel a abandonné le pays.
13 ¶ Et il me dit : Tu verras encore d’autres grandes abominations qu’ils commettent.

8:7-12 Cette section décrit les « autres grandes abominations » du v. 6: le culte secret pratiqué par des anciens idolâtres.
8:8
perce la muraille … une porte. Cela indique que ces idolâtres pratiquaient leur culte dans la clandestinité (cf. v. #Ez 8:12) et le plus grand secret.
8:10
peintes sur la muraille. Les murs du temple étaient défigurés par des représentations de créatures liées aux cultes égyptiens rendus à des animaux (cf. #Ro 1:23) et à d’autres idoles. Les chefs d’Israël, qui auraient dû rendre un culte au vrai Dieu de ce temple, étaient en train d’offrir de l’encens aux faux dieux (v. #Ez 8:11).
8:11
Soixante-dix hommes. Il ne s’agit évidemment pas du sanhédrin, puisque cette institution n’exista qu’après le retour de Babylone, même si son mode de fonctionnement avait été tracé bien avant (cf. #Ex 24:9-10 ; #No 11:16). Aussi incroyable que cela puisse paraître, ces personnes-là avaient été nommées pour prévenir les dérives éventuelles vers l’idolâtrie!
Jaazania, fils de Schaphan. S’il était le fils de l’homme qui avait lu la Parole de Dieu à Josias (#2R 22:8-11), cela donne un aperçu de la dégringolade dans le péché qui caractérisait les responsables de Juda. Il ne faut pas confondre ce Jaazania avec son homonyme de 11:1 (de père différent).

7 ¶ And he brought me to the door of the court . I looked, and behold, there was a hole in the wall.
8 And he said unto me, Son of man, dig the wall ! I dug through the wall , and behold, there was a door.
9 And he said unto me , and behold the wicked abominations that they do here!
10 So I went in and looked , and behold, there were all kinds of creeping things , and abominable beasts , and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about.
11 seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel , among whom was Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing before these idols , each his censer in his hand, and he was a thick cloud of incense .
12 And he said unto me, Son of man, do you see that are in the old darkness of the house of Israel , every one in the chambers of his imagery? For they say, The LORD seeth us not , the Lord has forsaken the land .
13 ¶ And he said to me: You will see still greater abominations that they do.

8:7-12 This section describes the " greater abominations " of v. . 6: the secret worship practiced by the ancient idolaters.
8:8
pierces the wall ... a door. This indicates that these idolatrous worship practiced in secret (cf. v. . # Ez 8:12 ) and the greatest secrecy.
8:10
painted on the wall. The temple walls were disfigured by representations of creatures related to the Egyptian cults to animals (see # Ro 1:23 ) and other idols. The leaders of Israel , who should worship the true God of the temple , were in the process of burning incense to false gods (v. # Ez 8:11 ) .
8:11
Seventy men . This is obviously not the council, since this institution existed after the return from Babylon , even if its operation had been drawn before (cf. Ex 24:9-10 # , # # 11: 16). As incredible as it may seem, these people were appointed to prevent any drift towards idolatry !
Jaazaniah son of Shaphan . He was the son of the man who had read the Word of God to Josiah (# 2R 22:8-11 ) , it gives an overview of the descent into sin which characterized the leaders of Judah . Do not confuse this with his namesake Jaazaniah 11:1 ( different father).
