24:50-51 La conviction du serviteur était si évidente et si forte que le père et le frère de Rebecca furent bien obligés de reconnaître l’intervention divine et ne purent qu’acquiescer à sa demande.
51 Voici Rebecca devant toi ; prends et va, et qu’elle soit la femme du fils de ton seigneur, comme l’Éternel l’a dit.
52 Lorsque le serviteur d’Abraham eut entendu leurs paroles, il se prosterna en terre devant l’Éternel.
53 Et le serviteur sortit des objets d’argent, des objets d’or, et des vêtements, qu’il donna à Rebecca ; il fit aussi de riches présents à son frère et à sa mère.

54 ¶ Après quoi, ils mangèrent et burent, lui et les gens qui étaient avec lui, et ils passèrent la nuit. Le matin, quand ils furent levés, le serviteur dit : Laissez-moi retourner vers mon seigneur.
Laissez-moi retourner vers mon seigneur. Le protocole et la courtoisie exigeaient qu’un messager soit congédié par ses destinataires.
55 Le frère et la mère dirent : Que la jeune fille reste avec nous quelque temps encore, une dizaine de jours ; ensuite, tu partiras.
56 Il leur répondit : Ne me retardez pas, puisque l’Éternel a fait réussir mon voyage ; laissez-moi partir, et que j’aille vers mon seigneur.
57 Alors ils répondirent : Appelons la jeune fille et consultons-la.
24:57-58
Veux-tu aller avec cet homme? Rebecca eut un comportement méritoire en acceptant de partir immédiatement et prouva sa confiance en ce que lui réservait la providence.
58 Ils appelèrent donc Rebecca, et lui dirent : Veux-tu aller avec cet homme ? Elle répondit : J’irai.
59 Et ils laissèrent partir Rebecca, leur sœur, et sa nourrice, avec le serviteur d’Abraham et ses gens.
60 Ils bénirent Rebecca, et lui dirent: O notre sœur, puisses-tu devenir des milliers de myriades, et que ta postérité possède la porte de ses ennemis !
Ils bénirent Rebecca, et lui dirent. Ils ne se rendirent certainement pas compte que leur prière conventionnelle - souhaitant de nombreux descendants à Rebecca concordait avec les promesses de Dieu à Abraham. Leur souhait que sa postérité soit victorieuse sur ses ennemis (« possède leur porte ») faisait aussi écho aux promesses de Dieu par rapport au pays de Canaan que les descendants d’Abraham posséderaient (#Ge 13: 17 ; #Ge 15: 7, #Ge 15: 16 ; #Ge 17: 8).
61 Rebecca se leva, avec ses servantes ; elles montèrent sur les chameaux, et suivirent l’homme. Et le serviteur emmena Rebecca, et partit.
62 ¶ Cependant Isaac était revenu du puits de Lachaï-roï, et il habitait dans le pays du midi.
Lachaï-roï. Voir #Ge 16: 14. Lieu situé à la frontière entre la région d’Israël et l’Égypte, à environ 40 km au nord-ouest de Kadès-Barnéa. Isaac vécut dans cette région après la mort de son père (#Ge 25:11).
63 Un soir qu’Isaac était sorti pour méditer dans les champs, il leva les yeux, et regarda ; et voici, des chameaux arrivaient.

Nous ignorons comment Dieu attira Isaac à l’endroit même où Agar avait rencontré l’ange de l’Éternel (cf. #Ge 16: 14), mais il était au bon endroit pour accueillir la caravane qui arrivait avec sa fiancée. Peut-être, réfléchissait-il aux événements de sa vie et au vide laissé par la mort de sa mère (v. #Ge 24: 67). Il espérait sans doute que le serviteur ne reviendrait pas seul.
64 Rebecca leva aussi les yeux, vit Isaac, et descendit de son chameau.
65 Elle dit au serviteur : Qui est cet homme, qui vient dans les champs à notre rencontre ? Et le serviteur répondit: C’est mon seigneur. Alors elle prit son voile, et se couvrit.
elle prit son voile et se couvrit. L’usage voulait que la future mariée voile son visage en présence de son fiancé, et ce jusqu’au jour du mariage.
66 Le serviteur raconta à Isaac toutes les choses qu’il avait faites.
67 Isaac conduisit Rebecca dans la tente de Sara, sa mère ; il prit Rebecca, qui devint sa femme, et il l’aima. Ainsi fut consolé Isaac, après avoir perdu sa mère.
la tente de Sara, sa mère. Il confirmait ainsi qu’il l’acceptait comme épouse, avant même d’avoir vu sa beauté. Lorsqu’il la vit, il « l’aima ».

24: 50-51 The conviction of the servant was so obvious and strong that the father and brother of Rebecca were obliged to recognize the divine intervention and could not acquiesce to his request.
51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee; take her and go, and let her be wife of thy master's son, as the Lord said.
52 When Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed down before the Lord.
53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, gave them to Rebekah; he gave also to her brother and to her mother.
By this dot, Rebecca was betrothed to Isaac.
54 ¶ Then they ate and drank, he and the men that were with him, and they spent the night. In the morning they rose up, and he said, Let me go back to my master.
Let me go back to my master. The protocol and courtesy demanded that a messenger was fired by its recipients.
55 The brother and mother said, Let the girl stay with us for some time, ten days; Then, you set out.
56 He said to them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; let me go, that I may go to my master.
57 And they said, We will call the girl and ask her.
24: 57-58
Will you go with this man? Rebecca had meritorious service by agreeing to leave immediately and proved his confidence in that store for her providence.
58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto him, Wilt thou go with this man? She said, I will go.
59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men.
60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto him, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of his enemies!
And they blessed Rebekah and said to him. They will certainly not realized that their conventional prayer - many descendants wishing to Rebecca consistent with God's promises to Abraham. Their wish that his posterity be victorious over his enemies ("has their door") also echoed the promises of God in relation to the land of Canaan that Abraham's descendants would possess (#Ge 13: 17; #Ge 15: 7, #Ge 15: 16; #Ge 17: 8).
61 Rebekah arose, and her damsels, they rode upon the camels, and followed the man. And the servant took Rebekah, and went.
62 ¶ And Isaac came from the well blurted roi; for he dwelt in the south country.
Blurted roi. See #Ge 16: 14. Place on the border between the region of Israel and Egypt, about 40 miles northwest of Kadesh Barnea. Isaac lived in this region after the death of his father (#Ge 25:11).
63 One evening Isaac went out to meditate in the field, he looked up, and looked, and, behold, the camels were coming.
to meditate. We do not know how God drew Isaac to the place where Hagar had met the angel of the Lord (cf. #Ge 16: 14), but it was the right place to host the caravan arrived with his fiancée. Perhaps, he reflected the events of his life and the void left by the death of his mother (v #Ge. 24: 67). He probably hoped that the servant would not return alone.
64 And Rebekah looked up, saw Isaac, lighted off the camel.
65 She said to the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant said, It is my master. Then she took her veil and covered herself.
she took her veil and covered herself. The custom was that the bride veil her face in the presence of her fiance, until the wedding day.
66 The servant told Isaac all the things he had done.
67 Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
the tent of his mother Sarah. It thus confirmed he accepted as his wife, even before seeing its beauty. When he saw her, he "loved him".
