30 ¶ Isaac avait fini de bénir Jacob, et Jacob avait à peine quitté son père Isaac, qu’Esaü, son frère, revint de la chasse.
31 Il fit aussi un mets, qu’il porta à son père ; et il dit à son père : Que mon père se lève et mange du gibier de son fils, afin que ton âme me bénisse !
32 Isaac, son père, lui dit : Qui es-tu ? Et il répondit : Je suis ton fils aîné, Esaü.
33 Isaac fut saisi d’une grande, d’une violente émotion, et il dit : Qui est donc celui qui a chassé du gibier, et me l’a apporté ? J’ai mangé de tout avant que tu vinsses, et je l’ai béni. Aussi sera-t-il béni.
Isaac … une violente émotion. Visiblement choqué par l’arrivée d’Esaü et la découverte du scandale, le père, se souvenant des paroles du Seigneur à Rebecca (#Ge 25:23), refusa de retirer la bénédiction et confirma sa validité: « Aussi sera-t-il béni » et plus loin: « Voici, je l’ai établi ton maître » et « tu seras asservi à ton frère » (vv. #Ge 27:37, #Ge 27:40). Puisqu’il prit tout à coup conscience qu’il s’était opposé pendant des années à la volonté de Dieu, le choc dut être double.
34 Lorsque Esaü entendit les paroles de son père, il poussa de forts cris, pleins d’amertume, et il dit à son père: Bénis-moi aussi, mon père !
Bénis-moi aussi. Esaü s’attendait à recevoir la bénédiction car il s’était identifié à son père en tant que premier-né (v. #Ge 27:32). Angoissé à l’idée de perdre cette importante bénédiction paternelle et se comportant avec amertume en victime innocente (v. #Ge 27:36), il rejeta la responsabilité de cette perte du droit d’aînesse et de la bénédiction sur Jacob et supplia son père de lui accorder une parole de bénédiction en compensation (vv. #Ge 27:36, #Ge 27:38).
35 Isaac dit : Ton frère est venu avec ruse, et il a enlevé ta bénédiction.
36 Esaü dit : Est-ce parce qu’on l’a appelé du nom de Jacob qu’il m’a supplanté deux fois ? Il a enlevé mon droit d’aînesse, et voici maintenant qu’il vient d’enlever ma bénédiction. Et il dit : N’as-tu point réservé de bénédiction pour moi ?
37 Isaac répondit, et dit à Esaü: Voici, je l’ai établi ton maître, et je lui ai donné tous ses frères pour serviteurs, je l’ai pourvu de blé et de vin : que puis-je donc faire pour toi, mon fils ?
38 Esaü dit à son père : N’as-tu que cette seule bénédiction, mon père ? Bénis-moi aussi, mon père ! Et Esaü éleva la voix, et pleura.
39 Isaac, son père, répondit, et lui dit : Voici ! Ta demeure sera privée de la graisse de la terre Et de la rosée du ciel, d’en haut.
27:39-40 Dans sa prière, Isaac demanda pour Esaü la prospérité et l’infériorité; il confirma donc la validité des paroles dites à Jacob et remplaça « sois le maître de tes frères » par « tu seras asservi à ton frère » (vv. #Ge 27:29, #Ge 27:40). Cette bénédiction secondaire ne pouvait remplacer l’initiale.
40 Tu vivras de ton épée, Et tu seras asservi à ton frère ; Mais en errant librement çà et là, Tu briseras son joug de dessus ton cou.
briseras son joug de dessus ton cou. Au cours de l’histoire, les Édomites, descendants d’Esaü, combattirent maintes fois les Israélites et échappèrent à plusieurs reprises à leur domination (#2R 8:20 ; #2Ch 21:8-10 ; #2Ch 28:16-17).
41 ¶ Esaü conçut de la haine contre Jacob, à cause de la bénédiction dont son père l’avait béni ; et Esaü disait en son cœur : Les jours du deuil de mon père vont approcher, et je tuerai Jacob, mon frère.
Les jours du deuil de mon père. Esaü pensait de toute évidence que son père allait bientôt mourir (v. #Ge 27:1) et ainsi, par respect pour son vieux père, il remit l’assassinat à plus tard. Isaac vécut encore 43 ans.
42 On rapporta à Rebecca les paroles d’Esaü, son fils aîné. Elle fit alors appeler Jacob, son fils cadet, et elle lui dit : Voici, Esaü, ton frère, veut tirer vengeance de toi, en te tuant.
43 Maintenant, mon fils, écoute ma voix ! Lève-toi, fuis chez Laban, mon frère, à Charan ;
44 et reste auprès de lui quelque temps, jusqu’à ce que la fureur de ton frère s’apaise,
45 jusqu’à ce que la colère de ton frère se détourne de toi, et qu’il oublie ce que tu lui as fait. Alors je te ferai revenir. Pourquoi serais-je privée de vous deux en un même jour ?
privée de vous deux en un même jour. Rebecca comprit qu’elle risquait de perdre ses deux fils puisque, après l’assassinat de Jacob, le plus proche parent traquerait Esaü et le tuerait à son tour.
46 Rebecca dit à Isaac : Je suis dégoûtée de la vie, à cause des filles de Heth. Si Jacob prend une femme, comme celles-ci, parmi les filles de Heth, parmi les filles du pays, à quoi me sert la vie ?

32 Isaac his father said to him: Who art thou? And he said, I am your oldest son, Esau.
33 Isaac trembled a large, violent emotion, and said, Who is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I have eaten of all before you came and I blessed him. Also he will be blessed.
Isaac ... violent emotion. Visibly shocked by the arrival of Esau and the discovery of the scandal, the father, remembering the words of the Lord Rebecca (#Ge 25:23), refused to withdraw the blessing and confirmed its validity: "As will be-t he blessed "and further," Behold, I have made him thy lord "and" you shall serve your brother "(vv #Ge 27:37, 27:40 #Ge.). Since it took suddenly realize that he had opposed for years to the will of God, the shock had to be doubled.
34 When Esau heard his father's words, he cried with loud cries, embittered, and he said to his father, Bless me too, my father!
Bless me too. Esau expected to receive the blessing because he identified his father as the first-born (v. #Ge 27:32). Distressed at the thought of losing this important paternal blessing and behaving with bitterness innocent victim (v. #Ge 27:36), he rejected responsibility for the loss of the birthright and the blessing of Jacob and begged his father to grant him a word of blessing compensation (vv. #Ge 27:36, 27:38 #Ge).
35 he said, Thy brother came with guile, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36 Esau said, Is not he rightly named Jacob that he has supplanted me twice? He took away my birthright, and now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
37 Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and I gave him all his brothers for servants; I and with corn and wine: what can I do for you, my son?
38 Esau said to his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father! And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39 Isaac his father answered and said to him: Behold! Thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth and of the dew of heaven from above.
27: 39-40 In his prayer, Isaac asked Esau prosperity and inferiority; therefore upheld the validity of the words spoken to Jacob and replaced "Be master of your brothers" with "you will serve your brother" (vv. #Ge 27:29, 27:40 #Ge). This secondary blessing could not replace the original.
40 You shall live by your sword, and shalt serve thy brother; But wandering freely here and there, You break his yoke from off thy neck.

41 ¶ And Esau hatred against Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand, and I will kill my brother Jacob.
The days of mourning for my father. Esau obviously thought that his father was dying (v #Ge. 27: 1) and thus, out of respect for his old father, he put the murder later. Isaac lived for 43 years.
42 were told to Rebekah words of Esau her elder son. She sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, Esau your brother wants to avenge you, killing you.
43 Now, my son, hear my voice! Arise, flee to Laban my brother to Haran;
44 and stay with him for a while, until your brother's fury subsides,
45 until your brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget what you did to him. So I bring you back. Why should I lose both of you in one day?
lose both of you in one day. Rebecca realized she might lose her two son since after the murder of Jacob, the next of kin would hunt Esau and kill him in turn.
46 Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob take a wife, like these, from the daughters of Heth, among the daughters of the land, what is my life?
