ÉSAÏE 54 : 1 À 17 ***
1 ¶ Réjouis-toi, stérile, toi qui n’enfantes plus ! Fais éclater ton allégresse et ta joie, toi qui n’as plus de douleurs ! Car les fils de la délaissée seront plus nombreux Que les fils de celle qui est mariée, dit l’Éternel.
2 Élargis l’espace de ta tente ; Qu’on déploie les couvertures de ta demeure : Ne retiens pas ! Allonge tes cordages, Et affermis tes pieux !
3 Car tu te répandras à droite et à gauche ; Ta postérité envahira des nations, Et peuplera des villes désertes.
4 Ne crains pas, car tu ne seras point confondue ; Ne rougis pas, car tu ne seras pas déshonorée ; Mais tu oublieras la honte de ta jeunesse, Et tu ne te souviendras plus de l’opprobre de ton veuvage.
5 Car ton créateur est ton époux : L’Éternel des armées est son nom ; Et ton rédempteur est le Saint d’Israël : Il se nomme Dieu de toute la terre ;
6 ¶ Car l’Éternel te rappelle comme une femme délaissée et au cœur attristé, Comme une épouse de la jeunesse qui a été répudiée, dit ton Dieu.
7 Quelques instants je t’avais abandonnée, Mais avec une grande affection je t’accueillerai ;
8 Dans un instant de colère, je t’avais un moment dérobé ma face, Mais avec un amour éternel j’aurai compassion de toi, Dit ton rédempteur, l’Éternel.
9 Il en sera pour moi comme des eaux de Noé : J’avais juré que les eaux de Noé ne se répandraient plus sur la terre ; Je jure de même de ne plus m’irriter contre toi Et de ne plus te menacer.
10 Quand les montagnes s’éloigneraient, Quand les collines chancelleraient, Mon amour ne s’éloignera point de toi, Et mon alliance de paix ne chancellera point, Dit l’Éternel, qui a compassion de toi.
11 ¶ Malheureuse, battue de la tempête, et que nul ne console ! Voici, je garnirai tes pierres d’antimoine, Et je te donnerai des fondements de saphir ;
12 Je ferai tes créneaux de rubis, Tes portes d’escarboucles, Et toute ton enceinte de pierres précieuses.
13 Tous tes fils seront disciples de l’Éternel, Et grande sera la prospérité de tes fils.
14 Tu seras affermie par la justice ; Bannis l’inquiétude, car tu n’as rien à craindre, Et la frayeur, car elle n’approchera pas de toi.
15 Si l’on forme des complots, cela ne viendra pas de moi ; Quiconque se liguera contre toi tombera sous ton pouvoir.
16 Voici, j’ai créé l’ouvrier qui souffle le charbon au feu, Et qui fabrique une arme par son travail ; Mais j’ai créé aussi le destructeur pour la briser.
17 Toute arme forgée contre toi sera sans effet ; Et toute langue qui s’élèvera en justice contre toi, Tu la condamneras. Tel est l’héritage des serviteurs de l’Éternel, Tel est le salut qui leur viendra de moi, Dit l’Éternel.

54:1
stérile … n’enfantes plus … plus de douleurs. Dans son exil et sa dispersion, Israël serait réduit à rien, méprisé comme une femme incapable d’avoir des enfants (#Esa 49:21). Le prophète l’appela cependant à la louange en raison de la promesse, faite par le Seigneur, d’un avenir fructueux pour son peuple (#Esa 49:19-20). Le N.T. fournit une application supplémentaire au principe présent dans ce v. en le citant pour prouver que la Jérusalem céleste, mère des enfants de la promesse (postérité de Sara), pourra compter sur une nombreuse descendance (#Ga 4:27).
54:2
Élargis … déploie … Allonge. Le prophète ordonna à Israël, malgré sa stérilité, de se préparer pour le jour où ses habitants seraient nombreux et auraient besoin de plus d’espace pour pouvoir tous habiter en son sein (#Esa 26:15 ; #Esa 49:19-20).
54:3
répandras … ta postérité … nations. Le royaume à venir du Messie sera mondial, bien plus étendu que l’ancien royaume de David et de Salomon.
54:4
la honte de ta jeunesse … l’opprobre de ton veuvage. Les péchés d’Israël lui ont valu la captivité en Égypte, l’exil à Babylone et la dispersion actuelle, mais la gloire du royaume à venir sera si grande qu’elle éclipsera les échecs passés.
54:5
époux … rédempteur. Le fondement de l’oubli des péchés passés se trouve dans la relation d’Israël avec l’Éternel, son époux (#Esa 62:4-5) et son rédempteur (#Esa 41:14).
54:6-8
délaissée … attristé … répudiée. Durant son exil et sa diaspora, Israël ressemble à une épouse que son mari a répudiée, mais cette période est brève, comparée à la bénédiction éternelle dont le peuple jouira lors du retour du Messie, qui viendra rassembler l’épouse éplorée (#Esa 26:20).
54:9
eaux de Noé. Tout comme il a juré qu’il ne jugerait plus jamais la terre au travers d’un déluge (#Ge 8:21 ; #Ge 9:11), Dieu a aussi fait le serment de ne plus déchaîner sa colère sur son peuple. Cette promesse s’accomplira après la restauration totale d’Israël.
54:10
montagnes … collines … mon amour … mon alliance. Pendant le millénium (#Esa 48:6-7 ; #Esa 51:6, #Esa 51:16) la topographie changera (voir #Ez 38:20 ; #Mi 1: 4 ; #Za 14: 4, #Za 14: 10), mais pas la promesse de Dieu d’accorder le bien-être à Israël, du fait de la nouvelle alliance (#Esa 55:3 ; #Esa 59:21 ; #Esa 61:8).
54:11-12
pierres d’antimoine … saphir … rubis … escarboucles … pierres précieuses. Jérusalem, capitale à venir du règne messianique éternel consécutif au millénium, sera somptueusement décorée (#Ap 21:18-21). Mais aussi merveilleux que cela puisse paraître, c’est d’une importance bien moins grande que la richesse spirituelle du royaume, avec la domination de la vérité et de la paix (v. #Esa 54:13) en même temps que de la justice (v. #Esa 54:14). Le Seigneur lui-même enseignera tous les hommes pendant le millénium, de sorte que sa justice sera connue de tous (#Esa 11:9 ; #Jér 31:34). Jésus donna à ce v. un éclairage supplémentaire en l’appliquant à ceux qui eurent le discernement spirituel nécessaire pour se tourner vers lui lors de sa première venue (#Jn 6:45).
54:15-17
quiconque se liguera contre toi tombera. Cela se produira effectivement pendant le millénium, comme Jean le prophétisa en #Ap 20:7-9. Le Seigneur consumera les ennemis d’Israël. L’héritage des serviteurs de Dieu, pendant le règne messianique, inclura la protection contre tout envahisseur éventuel. Il faut relever qu’après le « chant du serviteur » d’#Esa 53, il est toujours fait allusion à Israël par le terme de « serviteurs » au pluriel, et non au singulier (#Esa 54:17 ; #Esa 56:6 ; #Esa 63:17 ; #Esa 65:8-9, #Esa 65:13-15 ; #Esa 66:14).

1 ¶ Rejoice, O barren, thou that didst not bear; Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who have no more pain! Because the son of the desolate are more numerous than the son of the married wife, saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent; That deploys the curtains of thine habitations: Do not hold! Lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes
3 For thou shalt break forth on the right and left; Thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities.
4 Fear not, because you will not be confused developed; Not ashamed, for you will not be disgraced; But you forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of your widowhood.
5 For your Maker is your husband, The LORD of hosts is his name; And thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel: He is called God of all the earth;
6 ¶ For the Lord has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved heart, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God.
7 small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee;
8 In a little wrath I hid you had a moment my face, but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith thy Redeemer, the Lord.
9 It will be for me as the waters of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; I swear I will not even irritate me against thee, nor rebuke thee.
10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills but my kindness shall not depart from thee, and my covenant of peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
11 ¶ afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted! Behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and I will give you foundations with sapphires;
12 I will make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of carbuncles, and all your walls of precious stones.
13 All thy son shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy son.
14 You will be strengthened by justice; From oppression, for you have nothing to fear, and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15 If the shape of the plots, it does not by me: Whoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
16 Behold, I have created the smith who blows the coals in the fire, and that a weapon for his work; But I have created the waster to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; And every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, This is the salvation that will come to them from me, saith the LORD.

54: 1
sterile ... bearest not ... more pain. In his exile and dispersion, Israel would be reduced to nothing, despised as a woman unable to have children (#Esa 49:21). The prophet, however, called for praise because of the promise made by the Lord for a fruitful future for his people (#Esa 49: 19-20). The NT provides an additional application of the principle present in this v. citing the proof that the heavenly Jerusalem, mother of the children of the promise (Sara posterity) can count on many descendants (#Ga 4:27).
54: 2
... Spreads widened ... Melee. The Prophet commanded Israel, despite its sterility, to prepare for the day when its inhabitants are numerous and would need more space to live in it all (#Esa 26:15; #Esa 49: 19-20 ) .dropoff window
54: 3
... pour your seed ... nations. The coming kingdom of the Messiah will be global, much more extensive than the ancient kingdom of David and Solomon.
54: 4
the shame of your youth ... the reproach of your widowhood. The sins of Israel earned him the captivity in Egypt, the Babylonian exile and the present dispersion, but the glory of the coming kingdom will be so great that it will eclipse past failures.
54: 5
husband ... redeemer. The foundation of the forgetting of past sins is in Israel's relationship with Jehovah, her husband (#Esa 62: 4-5), and his redeemer (#Esa 41:14).
54: 6-8
neglected ... sad ... repudiated. During his exile and diaspora, Israel looks like a wife that her husband divorced, but this period is short compared to the eternal blessing whose people enjoy during the return of the Messiah, who will bring the grieving wife (26 #Esa : 20).
54: 9
waters of Noah. Just as he swore he would never judge the earth through a flood (#Ge 8:21; #Ge 9:11) God also vowed not to unleash his anger on his people. This promise will be fulfilled after the total restoration of Israel.
54:10
mountains hills ... ... my love ... my covenant. During the millennium (#Esa 48: 6-7; #Esa 51: 6, 51:16 #Esa) topography change (see #Ez 38:20; #Mi 1: 4; #Za 14: 4, 14 #Za : 10), but not God's promise to give welfare to Israel, because of the new covenant (#Esa 55: 3; 59:21 #Esa; #Esa 61: 8).
54: 11-12
antimony sapphire stones ... ruby ... ... ... carbuncles gemstones. Jerusalem, the eternal capital coming Messianic reign consecutive to the millennium, will be lavishly decorated (#Ap 21: 18-21). But as wonderful as it sounds, this is a much less important than the spiritual wealth of the kingdom, with the domination of truth and peace (v. #Esa 54:13) at the same time as the righteousness (v. #Esa 54:14). The Lord himself will teach all men during the millennium, so that his justice will be known to all (#Esa 11: 9; Jer 31:34 #). Jesus gave this verse. additional lighting by applying it to those who had the spiritual discernment to turn to him in his first coming (#Jn 6:45).
54: 15-17
whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall. It will happen during the millennium, as John prophesied in the #Ap 20: 7-9. The Lord will consume the enemies of Israel. The heritage of the servants of God during the Messianic reign, will include protection against possible invaders. It should be noted that after the "song of the servant" of Esa # 53, it is still referred to Israel by the term "servants" in the plural, not the singular (#Esa 54:17; #Esa 56: 6; 63:17 #Esa; #Esa 65: 8-9, #Esa 65: 13-15; 66:14 #Esa).
