LUC 9 : 1 À 17 ***
1 ¶ Jésus, ayant assemblé les douze, leur donna force et pouvoir sur tous les démons, avec la puissance de guérir les maladies.
2 Il les envoya prêcher le royaume de Dieu, et guérir les malades.
3 Ne prenez rien pour le voyage, leur dit-il, ni bâton, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent, et n’ayez pas deux tuniques.
4 Dans quelque maison que vous entriez, restez-y ; et c’est de là que vous partirez.
5 Et, si les gens ne vous reçoivent pas, sortez de cette ville, et secouez la poussière de vos pieds, en témoignage contre eux.
6 Ils partirent, et ils allèrent de village en village, annonçant la bonne nouvelle et opérant partout des guérisons.
7 Hérode le tétrarque entendit parler de tout ce qui se passait, et il ne savait que penser. Car les uns disaient que Jean était ressuscité des morts ;
8 d’autres, qu’Elie était apparu ; et d’autres, qu’un des anciens prophètes était ressuscité.
9 Mais Hérode disait : J’ai fait décapiter Jean ; qui donc est celui-ci, dont j’entends dire de telles choses ? Et il cherchait à le voir.
10 ¶ Les apôtres, étant de retour, racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu’ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui, et se retira à l’écart, du côté d’une ville appelée Bethsaïda.
11 Les foules, l’ayant su, le suivirent. Jésus les accueillit, et il leur parlait du royaume de Dieu ; il guérit aussi ceux qui avaient besoin d’être guéris.
12 Comme le jour commençait à baisser, les douze s’approchèrent, et lui dirent : Renvoie la foule, afin qu’elle aille dans les villages et dans les campagnes des environs, pour se loger et pour trouver des vivres ; car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert.
13 Jésus leur dit : Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. Mais ils répondirent : Nous n’avons que cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins que nous n’allions nous-mêmes acheter des vivres pour tout ce peuple.
14 Or, il y avait environ cinq mille hommes. Jésus dit à ses disciples : Faites-les asseoir par rangées de cinquante.
15 Ils firent ainsi, ils les firent tous asseoir.
16 Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et, levant les yeux vers le ciel, il les bénit. Puis, il les rompit, et les donna aux disciples, afin qu’ils les distribuassent à la foule.
17 Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et l’on emporta douze paniers pleins des morceaux qui restaient.

Ne prenez rien. De légères différences entre Matthieu, Marc et Luc ont embarrassé certains. Selon Mt 10:9-10 et le texte ici, les disciples ne devaient pas prendre de bâtons; mais #Mr 6:8 interdit tout « si ce n’est un bâton ». #Mr 6:9 enjoint de « chausser des sandales », tandis que #Mt 10:10 inclut les souliers parmi les choses à ne pas prendre. En réalité, #Mt 10:10 et ce v. interdisent d’emmener des sandales et des bâtons supplémentaires. Les disciples ne devaient pas emporter de bagages dans leur tournée, mais partir uniquement avec les vêtements qu’ils avaient sur eux.

Hérode le tétrarque. Le nom de Christ s’était fait connaître dans les plus hautes sphères du gouvernement.
Jean était ressuscité des morts. Ce n’était évidemment pas vrai, cependant Hérode lui-même semblait angoissé par sa culpabilité (cf. #Mr 6:16).

il cherchait à le voir. Luc est le seul à mentionner ce détail.

à l’écart. Ils tentaient de prendre du repos loin de la foule. Cf. #Mr 6:31-32.
Bethsaïda. Bethsaïda-Julias se trouvait sur la rive nord-est de la mer de Galilée, près de l’embouchure du Jourdain.
9:12-17 Hormis la résurrection, la multiplication des pains pour les 5 000 hommes est le seul miracle de Jésus à être mentionné dans les quatre Évangiles (cf. #Mt 14:15-21 ; #Mr 6:35-44 ; #Jn 6:4-13).

environ cinq mille hommes. Si l’on inclut les femmes et les enfants, le nombre de personnes présentes devait approcher les 20 000.

paniers. Ces « paniers » étaient des corbeilles en osier plutôt petites que les Juifs utilisaient habituellement pour le transport de la nourriture.
sept corbeilles dans Marc 8 : 8. Elles n’étaient pas du même genre que celles qui avaient servi lors de la multiplication des pains pour les 5000 (#Mr 6:43). Il s’agissait alors de paniers plutôt petits, couramment utilisés par les Juifs pour emporter un ou deux repas pour la route; ici, le mot désigne de grandes corbeilles (assez grandes pour qu’un homme puisse y tenir, #Ac 9:25) qu’utilisaient les païens. Marc ne précise pas comment furent utilisés les morceaux qui restaient. Selon toute vraisemblance, ils furent donnés aux gens pour leur voyage de retour, puisqu’il est clair que les disciples ne les gardèrent pas pour eux (cf. v. #Mr 8:14).

1 ¶ Jesus called the twelve, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
3 Take nothing for the journey, he told them, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats apiece.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and it is from thence depart.
5 And if people do not get up, get out of that city, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
6 And they went, and they went from village to village, preaching and healing everywhere.
7 Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening, and he did not know what to think. Because some said that John was risen from the dead;
8 others that Elijah had appeared; and others, that one of the old prophets was risen.
9 Herod said, I beheaded John; So who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.
¶ 10 The apostles returned, told him all they had done. He took them, and went away on the side of a city called Bethsaida.
11 The crowds knew it, followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God; and healed them that had need of healing.
12 As the day began to decline, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals; for we are here in a desert place.
13 Jesus said unto them, Give ye them to eat. But they said, We have only five loaves and two fishes, unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.
14 Now there were about five thousand men. Jesus said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties.
15 They did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Jesus took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them. Then he broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
17 They all ate and were filled: and they took up twelve baskets full of fragments that remained.

Do not take anything. Slight differences between Matthew, Mark and Luke embarrassed some. According to Matthew 10: 9-10 and the text here, the disciples were not to take sticks; but #Mr 6: 8 prohibits "if not a stick." #Mr 6: 9 enjoined to "wear sandals" while #Mt 10:10 includes shoes among the things not to take. In reality, this #Mt 10:10 ET v. prohibit sandals and take additional sticks. The disciples were not to carry baggage in their tour, but starting with only the clothes they had on.

Herod the Tetrarch. The name of Christ was made known at the highest levels of government.
John was risen from the dead. This was obviously not true, though Herod himself seemed distressed by his guilt (cf. #Mr 6:16).

he sought to see him. Luke is the only one to mention this detail.
9:10
apart. They were trying to rest away from the crowds. #Mr Cf. 6: 31-32.
Bethsaida. Bethsaida-Julias was on the northeast shore of the Sea of Galilee, near the mouth of the Jordan.
9: 12-17 Apart from the resurrection, the multiplication of loaves among five thousand men is the only miracle of Jesus to be mentioned in all four Gospels (cf. #Mt 14: 15-21; #Mr 6: 35-44; #Jn 6: 4-13).

about five thousand men. Including women and children, the number of people present was approaching 20,000.
9:17
baskets. These "baskets" were rather small wicker baskets that Jews usually used to transport food.
seven baskets in Mark 8: 8. They were not of the same kind as those who had served in the Feeding of the 5000 (#Mr 6:43). It was then rather small baskets, commonly used by the Jews to take one or two meals for the road; Here, the word refers to large baskets (large enough for a man to take it, #AC 9:25) qu'utilisaient the Gentiles. Marc does not specify how the songs were used that were left. In all likelihood, they were given to people for their return trip, since it is clear that the disciples did not keep it for themselves (v. #Mr 8:14).
