Matthew 7.13-20
13 Enter by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it ; 14 Because narrow is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life , and few are those who trouvent.15 ¶ but be warned against false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing , but inwardly are wolves ravisseurs.16 you know them by their fruits. Do men gather on the grapes of thorns , or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruits.18 A good tree can not produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruits.19 every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into feu.20 So you know them by their fruits.21 ¶ not everyone who says to me , Lord, Lord which enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in cieux.22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name , and have we not cast out demons in your name, and do not we perform many miracles in thy name 23 and then I will declare to them , I 've never known; ? Depart from me, ye that evildoers .24 therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them , I will liken him unto a wise man , which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came , and the winds blew and against that house , and it fell not , for it was founded on the roc.26 and whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand : 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came , and the winds blew and beat against that house , and it fell, and its fall was grande.28 and it came to pass , when Jesus had ended these sayings , the crowds were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
7:13-29 This final part of the Sermon on the Mount is characteristic of the Gospel message . There are two doors, two paths , two destinations and two kinds of people (vv. # Mt 7:13-14 ), two kinds of trees and two kinds of fruit (vv. # Mt 7:17-20 ) ; two groups at the time of judgment (vv. # Mt 7:21-23 ), and two kinds of builders who construct two types of foundations ( vv. # Mt 7:24-28 ) . Christ also poses clearly as possible the boundary between the way that leads to destruction , and one that leads to life.
7:13-14 The two doors close as wide , are supposed to provide the entrance to the kingdom of God. Men are offered two paths. The narrow gate is the culmination of the journey of faith , narrow and specific, which passes through Christ alone. It represents the true salvation , according to God's way , which leads to eternal life. The wide door includes all religions of works and self-righteousness , no single designated channel (see # Acts 4:12 ), but it leads to hell and not to heaven.
