10 Quand ils aperçurent l’étoile, ils furent saisis d’une très grande joie.
11 Ils entrèrent dans la maison, virent le petit enfant avec Marie, sa mère, se prosternèrent et l’adorèrent ; ils ouvrirent ensuite leurs trésors, et lui offrirent en présent de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe.
12 Puis, divinement avertis en songe de ne pas retourner vers Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.
13 ¶ Lorsqu’ils furent partis, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, et dit : Lève-toi, prends le petit enfant et sa mère, fuis en Egypte, et restes-y jusqu’à ce que je te parle ; car Hérode cherchera le petit enfant pour le faire périr.
14 Joseph se leva, prit de nuit le petit enfant et sa mère, et se retira en Egypte.
15 Il y resta jusqu’à la mort d’Hérode, afin que s’accomplît ce que le Seigneur avait annoncé par le prophète : J’ai appelé mon fils hors d’Egypte.

dans la maison. Lorsque les mages arrivèrent, Marie et Joseph ne se trouvaient plus dans une étable, mais dans une maison (cf. #Lu 2:7).
le petit enfant avec Marie, sa mère. Chaque fois que Matthieu mentionne Marie en rapport avec son enfant, Christ figure en première position (cf. vv. #Mt 2:13-14, #Mt 2:20-21).
de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe. Des dons dignes d’un roi (cf. #Esa 60:6). Une telle adoration de la part de non-Juifs revêtait aussi une signification prophétique (#Ps 72:10).

en songe. Voir la note sur 1:20 {==> "Mt 1:20"}.
2:15
la mort d’Hérode. Les recherches modernes la placent en 4 av. J.-C. Le séjour en Égypte fut certainement assez bref, peut-être quelques semaines.
hors d’Égypte. Citation tirée d’#Os 11:1 ,qui parle de la libération d’Israël par Dieu lors de la sortie d’Égypte. Matthieu suggère que le séjour d’Israël en Égypte était une prophétie en images, plutôt qu’en mots comme au v. #Mt 2:6 ; cf. #Mt 1:23. De telles prophéties sont appelées des « types »; ceux-ci, clairement identifiés par les auteurs du N.T., sont toujours accomplis en Christ. Un autre exemple de type se trouve en #Jn 3:14.

12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 ¶ And when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I shall speaks; for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the night child and his mother, and departed into Egypt.
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: I called my son out of Egypt.

in the house. When the Magi arrived, Mary and Joseph were no longer in a stable but in a house (see # Lu 2:7).
the young child with Mary his mother. Whenever Matthew mentions Mary in relation to her child, Christ appears in first position (cf. vv. # Mt 2:13-14, Mt 2:20-21 #).
gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gifts worthy of a king (cf. Isaiah 60:6 #). Such adoration from non-Jews also was of prophetic significance (# Ps 72:10).

Herod's death. Modern research the place in 4 BC. BC stay in Egypt was certainly quite short, perhaps a few weeks.
out of Egypt. Quoted from # Bones 11:1, which speaks of the liberation of Israel by God at the exodus from Egypt. Matthew suggests that Israel's sojourn in Egypt was a prophecy in pictures rather than words as in verse. # Mt 2:6; cf. # Mt 1:23. Such prophecies are called "types"; they clearly identified by the NT writers are always fulfilled in Christ. Another example is type in # Jn 3:14.
