1 ¶ De David. Psaume. Je chanterai la bonté et la justice ; C’est à toi, Éternel ! que je chanterai.
101:1-8
Ce psaume exprime l’engagement de justice pris par David, en tant que roi médiateur, envers le roi éternel (le Seigneur), et ce en rapport avec:
1° sa propre vie;
2° la vie des habitants du royaume.
Il fut peut-être utilisé, plus tard, lors du couronnement de ses successeurs, mais seul Jésus, dans sa fonction de roi, est capable d’accomplir pleinement ces saintes résolutions (cf. #Esa 9:5-6 ; #Esa 11:1-5).

2 Je prendrai garde à la voie droite. Quand viendras-tu à moi ? Je marcherai dans l’intégrité de mon cœur, Au milieu de ma maison.
voie droite. La conduite du roi avait une influence sur celle de ses sujets (cf. v. #Ps 101:6).
Quand viendras-tu. Cette question n’a rien à voir avec une espérance eschatologique; elle exprime le besoin qu’avait David de voir Dieu s’impliquer dans son exercice de la royauté terrestre.
ma maison. Le roi commença par évoquer sa vie personnelle (cf. v. #Ps 101:7), avant d’élargir sa vision à son royaume (cf. vv. #Ps 101:5-8).
3 Je ne mettrai rien de mauvais devant mes yeux ; Je hais la conduite des pécheurs ; Elle ne s’attachera point à moi.

Comme l’homme « heureux » de 1:1.
mes yeux. Le roi désirait ne s’intéresser à rien d’autre que ce qui était juste (cf. v. #Ps 101:6).
4 Le cœur pervers s’éloignera de moi ; Je ne veux pas connaître le méchant.
le méchant. Le roi ne voulait pas s’engager sur la voie de la méchanceté (cf. v. #Ps 101:8).
5 Celui qui calomnie en secret son prochain, je l’anéantirai ; Celui qui a des regards hautains et un cœur enflé, je ne le supporterai pas.
calomnie … regards hautains … cœur enflé. David ne voulait tolérer ni les coups portés à la réputation d’autrui ni l’orgueil, dans son royaume.
6 J’aurai les yeux sur les fidèles du pays, Pour qu’ils demeurent auprès de moi ; Celui qui marche dans une voie intègre sera mon serviteur.
les fidèles du pays. Comparer avec « les méchants du pays » au v. 8.
7 Celui qui se livre à la fraude n’habitera pas dans ma maison ; Celui qui dit des mensonges ne subsistera pas en ma présence.
fraude … mensonges. La vérité était un fondement essentiel, pour un royaume associé au Dieu de la vérité (cf. #Jn 14: ).
8 Chaque matin j’anéantirai tous les méchants du pays, Afin d’exterminer de la ville de l’Éternel Tous ceux qui commettent l’iniquité.
pays … ville de l’Éternel. Respectivement Israël et Jérusalem.

1 ¶ Of David. Psalm. I will sing goodness and justice; It is to thee, O LORD. That I shall sing.
101: 1-8
This psalm expresses the pledge of justice made by David, as mediating king, to the eternal king (the Lord), in connection with:
(1) his own life;
(2) the life of the inhabitants of the kingdom.
It may have been used later in the coronation of his successors, but only Jesus, in his role as king, is able to fully fulfill these holy resolutions (see #Esa 9: 5-6; #Esa 11 : 1-5).

2 I will take care of the right way. When will you come to me? I will walk in the integrity of my heart, in the midst of my house.
Right channel. The conduct of the king had an influence on that of his subjects (cf. Ps 101: 6).
When will you come. This question has nothing to do with an eschatological hope; It expresses David's need to see God involved in his exercise of earthly kingship.
My house. The king began by evoking his personal life (see v. #Ps 101: 7), before extending his vision to his kingdom (see vv .Ps 101: 5-8).
3 I will not put anything bad before my eyes; I hate the conduct of sinners; She will not be attached to me.

Like the "happy" man of 1: 1.
my eyes. The king desired not to be interested in anything other than what was right (cf. #Ps 101: 6).
4 The perverse heart shall depart from me; I do not want to know the bad guy.
the mean one. The king did not want to enter the path of wickedness (cf. Ps 101: 8).
5 He that secretly calumnies his neighbor, I will annihilate him; He who has haughty looks and a swollen heart, I will not bear it.
Calumny ... haughty looks ... heart swollen. David would not tolerate either the blows to the reputation of others or pride in his kingdom.
6 I will have eyes on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; Whoever walks in an integral way will be my servant.
The faithful of the country. Compare with "the wicked of the land" in v. 8.
7 He that hath committed fraud shall not dwell in my house; He who speaks lies shall not stand in my presence.
Fraud ... lies. Truth was an essential foundation for a kingdom associated with the God of truth (cf. Jn 14: 4).
8 And every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, that they may destroy all the iniquities of the city of the LORD.
Country ... the city of the Lord. Israel and Jerusalem respectively.
