1 ¶ Cantique des degrés. De David. Je suis dans la joie quand on me dit : Allons à la maison de l’Éternel !
122:1-9
David exprime sa grande joie au sujet de Jérusalem: il l’avait établie comme sa capitale en battant les Jébusiens (cf. #2S 5) et en y amenant de façon définitive le tabernacle et l’arche (cf. #2S 6). Le désir et la prière de David furent temporairement accomplis pendant le règne de Salomon (cf. #1R 4:24-25). Mais, ironiquement, alors que son nom signifie « ville de paix », Jérusalem est la cité qui a donné lieu, tout au long de l’histoire, à plus de luttes que n’importe quelle autre au monde. D’un point de vue prophétique, le désir de David ne sera complètement assouvi que lorsque le « Prince de la paix » (#Esa 9:5) viendra établir son règne (#Za 14: 9, #Za 14: 11), conformément à la promesse de l’alliance davidique (cf. #2S 7:12-13, #2S 7:16 ; #Ez 37:24-28).
la maison de l’Éternel. Terme désignant ici le tabernacle (cf. #Ex 23: 19 ; #Ex 34:26 ; #2S 12:20) et non le temple, puisqu’il serait construit plus tard par Salomon.
2 Nos pieds s’arrêtent Dans tes portes, Jérusalem !
dans tes portes. On se situe donc après l’arrivée du tabernacle et de l’arche de l’alliance dans la ville de David (#2S 6). David était heureux que l’arche ait retrouvé un lieu de résidence convenable.
3 Jérusalem, tu es bâtie Comme une ville dont les parties sont liées ensemble.
liées ensemble. La Jérusalem du temps de David (Sion) était plus petite que celle de Salomon, qui l’agrandit.
4 C’est là que montent les tribus, les tribus de l’Éternel, Selon la loi d’Israël, Pour louer le nom de l’Éternel.

122:6-9
C’est une prière particulièrement appropriée pour une ville dont le nom signifie « ville de paix » et qui sert de résidence au Dieu de paix (#Esa 9:5 ; #Ro 15: 33 ; #Hé 13: 20). Comparer avec d’autres prières pour la paix d’Israël (#Ps 125:5 ; #Ps 128:6) et des psaumes exaltant Jérusalem (#Ps 128 ; #Ps 132 ; #Ps 147). L’histoire prouverait que des temps sombres (#Ps 79 ; #Ps 137) précéderaient les temps les meilleurs (#Ap 21:1-22:2).
7 Que la paix soit dans tes murs, Et la tranquillité dans tes palais !
8 À cause de mes frères et de mes amis, Je désire la paix dans ton sein ;

1 ¶ Song of the Degrees. From David. I am glad when they say to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD."
122: 1-9
David expresses his great joy over Jerusalem: he established it as his capital by defeating the Jebusites (cf. # 255) and finally bringing the tabernacle and the ark to it (cf. # 2S6). The desire and prayer of David were temporarily fulfilled during the reign of Solomon (cf. # 1R 4: 24-25). But ironically, while its name means "city of peace", Jerusalem is the city that has given rise, throughout history, to more struggles than any other in the world. From a prophetic point of view, David's desire will only be completely satisfied when the "Prince of Peace" (#Esa 9: 5) comes to establish his reign (#Za 14: 9, #Za 14:11) According to the promise of the Davidic covenant (cf. # 2S 7: 12-13, # 2S 7:16; #Ez 37: 24-28).
The house of the LORD. Term here designates the tabernacle (see #Ex 23:19; #Ex 34:26; # 2S 12:20) and not the temple, since it would be built later by Solomon.
2 Our feet stop in your gates, Jerusalem!
In your gates. It is therefore located after the arrival of the tabernacle and the ark of the covenant in the city of David (# 2S 6). David was glad that the ark had found a suitable place of residence.
3 Jerusalem, you are built As a city whose parts are bound together.
Linked together. The Jerusalem in the time of David (Zion) was smaller than that of Solomon, which enlarged it.
4 This is where the tribes and the tribes of the LORD go up, according to the law of Israel, to praise the name of the LORD.
Law of Israel. Allusion to the divine command to ascend to Jerusalem 3 times a year.
5 For there are the thrones for righteousness, the thrones of the house of David.
6 ¶ Ask for the peace of Jerusalem. Let those who love you enjoy rest!
122: 6-9
It is a particularly appropriate prayer for a city whose name means "city of peace" and which serves as a residence for the God of peace (#Esa 9: 5; #Ro 15:33; #He 13:20). Compare with other prayers for the peace of Israel (#Ps 125: 5; #Ps 128: 6) and psalms exalting Jerusalem (#Ps 128; #Ps 132; #Ps 147). History would prove that dark times (#Ps 79; #Ps 137) would precede the best times (#Ap 21: 1-22: 2).
7 Peace be in thy walls, and tranquility in thy palaces.
8 For my brothers and my friends, I desire peace in thy bosom;
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God, I make vows for your happiness.
