1 ¶ (62-1) Au chef des chantres. D’après Jeduthun. Psaume de David. (62-2) Oui, c’est en Dieu que mon âme se confie ; De lui vient mon salut.
62:1-13
Que le contexte de la rédaction de ce psaume soit, ou non, la rébellion d’Absalom (#2S 15: 1-18:2), David l’écrivit parce qu’il venait d’être victime d’une trahison. Il y affronte courageusement ses adversaires (vv. #Ps 62:4-5), mais ses pensées se portent surtout vers son Dieu (cf. #Ph 4:4-13).

3 (62-4) Jusqu’à quand vous jetterez-vous sur un homme, Chercherez-vous tous à l’abattre, Comme une muraille qui penche, Comme une clôture qu’on renverse ?
une muraille qui penche … une clôture qu’on renverse. Image d’un écroulement imminent. Certains appliquent cette comparaison à la victime, mais elle peut aussi illustrer le sort qui attend l’agresseur.
4 (62-5) Ils conspirent pour le précipiter de son poste élevé ; Ils prennent plaisir au mensonge ; Ils bénissent de leur bouche, Et ils maudissent dans leur cœur. — Pause.

je ne chancellerai pas. David donne la preuve de sa confiance accrue en Dieu. Au début, il parlait de ne chanceler qu’un peu (« guère », v. 3); désormais, il est certain de ne pas chanceler.
7 (62-8) Sur Dieu reposent mon salut et ma gloire ; Le rocher de ma force, mon refuge, est en Dieu.
8 ¶ (62-9) En tout temps, peuples, confiez-vous en lui, Répandez vos cœurs en sa présence ! Dieu est notre refuge, — Pause.
9 (62-10) Oui, vanité, les fils de l’homme ! Mensonge, les fils de l’homme ! Dans une balance ils monteraient Tous ensemble, plus légers qu’un souffle.

10 (62-11) Ne vous confiez pas dans la violence, Et ne mettez pas un vain espoir dans la rapine ; Quand les richesses s’accroissent, N’y attachez pas votre cœur.
11 (62-12) Dieu a parlé une fois ; Deux fois j’ai entendu ceci : C’est que la force est à Dieu.
12 (62-13) A toi aussi, Seigneur ! la bonté ; Car tu rends à chacun selon ses œuvres.

1 ¶ (62-1) To the chief singer. According to Jeduthun. Psalm of David. (62-2) Yes, it is in God that my soul confides; From him comes my salvation.
62: 1-13
Whether the context of the writing of this psalm is, or not, the rebellion of Absalom (# 2S 15: 1-18: 2), David wrote it because he had just been the victim of a betrayal. He bravely confronts his adversaries (vv. Ps 62: 4-5), but his thoughts are mostly directed towards his God (cf #Ph 4: 4-13).

2 (62-3) Yes, he is my rock and my salvation; My high retreat: I will not stagger.
Chancellor. Verb meaning "to be shaken" or "to be demoralized".
3 (62-4) How long will you throw yourself on a man? Will you all seek to destroy him, Like a wall that leans, Like a fence that is overturned?
A wall that leans ... a fence that is overturned. Image of an imminent collapse. Some apply this comparison to the victim, but it can also illustrate the fate awaiting the aggressor.
4 (62-5) They conspire to precipitate him from his high office; They take delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, And they curse in their hearts. - Pause.
5 (62-6) Yes, my soul, trust in God! For from it comes my hope.
6 (62-7) Yes, he is my rock and my salvation; My high retreat: I will not stagger.
I will not stagger. David gives proof of his increased confidence in God. At first he spoke of only staggering a little ("hardly", v. 3); Now it is certain not to stagger.
7 (62-8) On God rest my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, my refuge, is in God.
8 ¶ (62-9) At all times, peoples, trust in him, Spread your hearts in his presence! God is our refuge, - Pause.
9 (62-10) Yes, vanity, the sons of man! Lie, the sons of man! In a scale they would climb All together, lighter than a breath.
Son of man. All men, whatever their social level, are of such inconsistency that they are nothing but poor objects of confidence.
10 (62-11) Do not trust in violence, nor put a vain hope in rapine; When riches increase, do not attach your heart to it.
11 (62-12) God spoke once; Twice I have heard this: It is that strength is with God.
12 (62-13) To you also, O Lord! goodness ; For you give to each according to his works.
