Sukkoth-Benoth ; Succoth-Benoth (SEGOND) ; Soukot-Benot (Français Courant) ; Sukkot-Benot (JÉRUSALEM) ; Soukkoth-Benoth (T.O.B.). Idole que les colons babyloniens érigèrent en Samarie (#2R 17:30). Les divinités tutélaires de Babylone étaient Mardouk et Zarpanitum, mais cette ville adorait aussi beaucoup d’autres dieux. Les historiens Rawlinson et Schrader ont proposé l’identification de Sukkoth Benoth avec Zarpanitum, parce qu’il y a analogie à la fin des 2 noms. Friedrich Delitzsch tient Sukkoth-Benoth pour la forme hébreu des mots assyriens Sakkut Binûti, désignant le juge suprême de l’univers. Delitzsch pense qu’il s’agit d’un des titres de Mardouk.
