You search the Scriptures. {John 5:39} #

The Greek word here translated "sound" means strict, tight, with diligence, sound, be curious. So does a man seeking gold, or hunters when they are on the lookout for prey. We must not rest, satisfied with a superficial reading a chapter or two, but with the candlestick of the Spirit we really seek the hidden meaning of the words. Scripture requires that we "probe" we are looking deeply. Much can be learned by an appropriate study carefully. There was milk for babies, but also solid food for grown men. The rabbis wisely say that a mountain of wealth is suspended at every word, yes, every title of Scripture. Tertullus and exclaimed: I love the fullness of Scripture. No man, who only fly the book of God can claim benefit in this way. We have to dig, dig until we discovered the hidden treasure. The door of the Word only opens with the key of diligence. The Scriptures demand that we "seek". They are the Scriptures of God, bearing the seal and the divine imprimatur. Who dare to treat with levity? Whoever despises them despises the God who wrote them. God's Word instead obliged to seek, "sound". God does not ask us to sift through a mountain of chaff with here and there a grain of wheat as booty, but the Bible is a grain already tired, we have only to open the door to the attic and find it. The Scriptures grow the student. They are full of surprises. Under the teaching of the Holy Spirit, for the scrutiny they burn with the splendor of revelation, like a vast temple paved with gold worked with a roof rubies, emeralds, and all kinds of beads. There is no commodity that is as provided by the Word of Truth. Finally, the Scriptures reveal Jesus: They testify of Him. No engine power can encourage readers of the Bible more than this: He who finds Jesus finds life, heaven, all things. Blessed is he who, probing his Bible discovers his Saviour.
